Introduction: DIY Lip Balm

Hi Guys! This is my first instructable so please bear with me! If you have anyway that I can improve my instructables, or have any feedback, then please leave a note in the comments!

So today I'm going to show you how to make your own coloured lip balm/gloss/stick. It's really easy and fun, and only consists of 3-6 ingredients, depending on how you want it to turn out. This is also a great gift for your friends or family.

If you try out this instructable, then please let me know how well it went! Also, I hope you have a great time, and even if you don't do this DIY, I hope you had fun reading this and are inspired!

Step 1: Ingredients

Here are the ingredients:

Crayons (don't worry they are perfectly safe - It's best to use a brand like Crayola that are non-toxic and safe while being quite pigmented - just what we want!)

  1. Crayons (don't worry they are perfectly safe - It's best to use a brand like Crayola that are non-toxic and safe while being quite pigmented - just what we want!)
  2. Vegetable oil (If not at hand then use olive oil, although vegetable is better for your skin)
  3. Squeezy lipgloss, chapstick or lip smacker (for the shimmer and flavour)

Optinal:

  1. flakes of Beeswax (this will make it easier to apply and less messy as it will add more solid wax to the mixture)

  2. Eyeshadow or blush (To add more colour, or can be substituted for the crayon if you add the same amount crayon as beeswax)

Step 2: Materials

You will need:

  1. Microwave
  2. Fridge
  3. glass measuring jug
  4. 2 wooden candyfloss (cotton candy) or popsicle sticks
  5. A small container (the one I used allowed my to make 2 different colours)
  6. 1 tsp measuring spoon
  7. A kitchen towel (for cleaning the jug easily later)

Step 3: Melting the Crayon, Beeswax and Oil

Put 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil in the measuring jug.

Then break up 1 crayon (you can mix and match colours) and put it into the oil (or add in your eye shadow).

Now put in your beeswax.

Put the jug in the microwave for 1 minute on high or medium.

After 1 minute, take out the jug and use the stick to stir the solution, then put it back in the microwave for another minute.

Step 4: Adding Lipgloss

So after you have taken the jug out of the microwave, give it a quick stir. Everything should be melted by now.

Then squeeze in some lip gloss. The more you add, the more the end result will shimmer. If you want to add some lip smacker or chapstick, then just cut off a small chunk about half a cm to 1 cm depending on how thick the stick is.

Now put the jug into the microwave for just another 30 seconds. After, take out the jug and stir together the contents.

Step 5: Finishing Off!

Pour the contents of the jug into your container. If, like mine, your container has a lid that clicks in on the inside of the container, then put two candyfloss/popsicle sticks in the place you don't want any liquid to go like I did in the first picture. Don't overfill your container (like I did) if you are putting another colour in the lid as when you try to close it they will mush together and look disgusting. This happened to mine before I found out I shouldn't overfill it!

Then put it in the fridge for 2 minutes. After it has set take out the sticks and there should be a small space there. I made another colour and put it on the other side of the container, then put it in the fridge again. when it had all solidified I took it out and It was ready to use.

Step 6: Voila!

Now you lips balm/stick/gloss is ready to use! It should be very smooth when you put it on. Enjoy!

Please leave a comment, and remember, be nice! Thank you for reading this!
