Intro: Decorative Concrete - Crumb Method

The crumb method uses pigmented crumbed concrete to create a granite-like effect.

The piece created in this video was an attempt to emulate this beautiful Santiago red granite:

Step 1: Things You Will Need

  • dust mask
  • latex gloves

White portion:

  • white cement
  • coarse white sand

Red portion:

  • white cement
  • fine white sand
  • red pigment

Black portion:

  • white cement
  • medium black sand
  • black pigment

Mini concrete vibrator:

  • form (dinner plate)
  • water
  • detergent
  • disposable cups
  • popsicle sticks
  • sodium silicate (available from pottery supply stores)
  • brush
  • knife sharpening stone (or other sanding/grinding tools)

Step 2: Instruction Video

Refer to the above instruction video for a demonstration of the crumb method.

If you would like any further clarification or support on any of the steps, please feel free to leave me a comment and I will help as best as I can.
