Introduction: Denim Coasters

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

This is a really great project to make with leftover denim. I was once given a piece of denim from my sister's old jeans to use for any craft that I make, and this is the one: denim coasters!

Step 1: Materials

What you'll need to make this coasters are...

  • old denim scraps
  • cork board
  • X-acto knife
  • hot glue gun
  • black marker
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • Decorations: 3D puff paint / gems / ribbon

Step 2: Prepare Cork Board

This project makes about 2 denim coasters. First, measure and cut out two (2) 4-inch squares of cork board.

Step 3: Add Denim Squares

From there, cut out 2 pieces of denim scraps the same size as your cork board squares and glue them together.

Step 4: Decorate

Once they're done, they're ready to be decorated! You can draw designs on the coasters with 3D puff paint (like I did here with flowers with rhinestones in the middle), and leave them out for the paint to set. You can also create a border with a few pieces of ribbon and a few gems glued to the sides of the board. Either way, you're the one in control of this upcycling project here!

Step 5: Ready to Use

Once everything is dry, they're ready to use! Make as many as you like as gifts or use them for your own house for decor!
