Introduction: Desk Top Hydroponics System
We are to create a hydroponics system on a personal scale great for inside your house or on your desk at work. This system makes it easy, clean, and convenient for the user who may not be known to have the "Green Thumb" to grow their own plant(s). We expect the outcome to be brilliant and efficient, growing almost any type of plant a grower would love to see. The hydroponics system is easy to manage,with the user only needing to check the ph levels once a week; the plant will continuously be immersed in the nutrients-based water. There is no required task that you must complete every day. It has been tested and proven capable to grow lettuce among other "cool crops". Don't believe us, try it yourself!
Step 1: Prepping Your Conainter
You will need to find yourself a plastic container. Use the dremel to saw off the top of the container. Then Grab the tube that you want to you and measure it in a drill gauge. Now take that known size a hand drill a two holes next to each other. Stick both tubes through the hole and use silicone to seal off around them. This will prevent leakages.
Step 2: Prepping Your Wooden Box
First you will need to measure out the bottom of the container. Measure out two inches away from each side and record those measurements.I used plywood for this box. it was light and easy to work with, but choosing the wood is all in your own preference. Those measurements will be the dimensions of your box. When you are making your box make a removable lid for the top. The rest of the sides use wood glue and clamps to secure the rest of the sides together. Leave it to dry overnight just to be sure.
Step 3: Merging the Lamp and the Air Pump to One Outlet Plug Controlled by One Switch
You will need to strip both wires. Match up the one side with a lumped line through it with the other lumped lined wire. Twist them together and attach them to the negative side of the plug. Take the other two are attach them to the positive side of the plug. Make sure you test to make sure everything is working correctly. The next step is to strip the one side of the wire a connect it to the switch. this will close the circle and only allow the switch to control the power. Cut out a hole on the side of the box to match up the house switch that will need to stick out.
Step 4: Final Connections
Now its time to connect the one end of the tube to the air pump then follow that same tube and take the end that is inside the container and attach the other end to the appropriate sized air stone. The other tube that remains in the tube remains unblocked this is where the ph up and down will flow through. At the opposite end attach a one way valve, this is where the syringes can be interchanged depending on what ph you are putting in. You can choose to velcro each to the side of the box with labels on the tops. Last you will need to fasten the automatic ph tester to the top of the container.
Step 5: Make It Personal
Now it is time to pick the shape of your back board along with the color of the board and your box. Make sure the board will be at least 4 to 6 inches above the top of the container leaving space for the plant. i suggest using a thin piece of wood and making a groove at the top where the top of the lap could hang over. Then use a hot glue gun to fasten the rest of the wire to the back of the back board. the last detail you will need is picking the outside tissue paper; when wrapping your container make sure you pick a dark color tissue paper. This will limit the light coming through the container which could result in algae growth.
Step 6: Now You Are Ready to Grow
