Introduction: Distress Your Jeans

This instructable will teach you how to get distressing on your own jeans. You won't need to go out and buy ripped jeans anymore!

Here's what you'll need:
a pair of jeans
razor blade
sand paper with lower grits (very rough)
a block of wood

Step 1: Wood

First place the block of wood into the jeans as support for your distressing with the razor blade.

Step 2: Begin Scraping

Once you've put the wood under the spot that you want to have distressed, you can being to shave the fabric with a razor blade.

Step 3: Scrape Repeatedly

The scraping may take awhile till you see results. Be patient! You will slowly see that the threads are weakening.

Step 4: Change Tool

Once you've started to create a small hole in your jeans, you have the option of switching to sand paper. The sand paper will speed up the process.

Step 5: Sand Your Jeans

I taped the sand paper to a block of wood so that I could had more control over the paper. Continue to sand in the same spot in all directions.

Step 6: Keep Going!

As you continue to sand the fabric, you will notices that the fibres are breaking apart. This is really preference and you can choose to stop whenever you want. The more you sand, the more threads will break and the bigger hole you will have.

Step 7: Repeat in Other Spots

Now that you've made your first distressed spot, you can continue to do the same to other places on your jeans. The trick is to do it on spots where distressing looks natural like on the knees. You can also do other things like soften the jeans or fade them using bleach.
