This project was done for the
2014 Silver award of two Girl Scouts. It was designed to assist orphans living at the BeLikeBrit orphanage in Haiti. We hope that you enjoy this project, and please be sure to check out the BeLikeBrit website at belikebrit.org

Step 1: Materials
You will need the following:
One sheet of drop cloth that is 3' by 1.5'
Two 1.5' long craft rope pieces- ours were red
Two 3' long craft rope pieces-ours were black
You will also need a sewing machine, pencil, and pair of scissors.
Step 2: Measurements
We tried to make this project
as no-sew as possible, so the one-inch measurements are slots for the craft rope to go through. The four inches at the top are gussets for the drawstrings.
For precise reference, see the picture.
Step 3: Prep: Part 1
Cut on the
lines that you made in step 2.
Step 4: Threading
Thread the 1.5 foot craft rope through the slots.
Step 5: Prep: Part Two
Fold over the top two inches of each half of the bag, and sew them across. Leave the ends open.
Step 6: Fold Inside Out
Self explanatory, I believe.
Step 7: Thread and Tie
This is the most complex of all the steps.
First, take one of the 3 foot craft rope pieces and tie it to a pen cap. Thread the string through the gussets. The pen cap should help you to thread the craft rope. Tie a knot when you have threaded both gussets.
Repeat with the other craft rope piece.
Step 8: Done!
We designed and made 20-30 of these for the orphans in Haiti. You can make these for yourself, or for a different cause. We invite you to check out belikebrit.org to see how you can help this worthy cause. BeLikeBrit is a totally non-profit organization, and it needs your donations. They have a wishlist up so that no matter what your budget is, you can afford to help in some way.
Have fun sewing!
