I have always loved a summer espadrille but have always had the issue of them stretching out to the point that I couldn't keep them on anymore. What to do? Get rid of them? NO! They are way too cute and comfortable to do that. Answer? Shoe hack!!!
In this Instructable I will show you how to solve this problem by adding a few loops and some laces. When you are done you will be so excited with the results, I sure was and it was a snap!
Step 1: What You Will Need...
A pair of espadrilles
A marking pencil
Some Embroidery floss
About 1 1/2 yards of 1/2" cotton twill tape
and not pictured... scissors
Step 2: Marking... and Threading...
Using the ruler find the center front of the shoe and mark there. Then mark both sides of the shoe where you want your lace to hit. I marked mine at 2" from the front edge and got that measurement by putting the shoe on and deciding where I thought they would look good. When you are done thread a needle with a double thread and don't forget to tie a knot!
Step 3: Making the Loops...
So there is an easy way to make a loop and a harder way, but they both start the same way, so here we go! Start your loop about 1/2" in from the edge of the shoe at the center front. The easy way is, make a loop or two that is as as wide as the tip of your finger and tie that off with a secure knot. Your easy loop is done. If you want a more secure loop I recommend doing a button hole loop stitch. Here is a great web site that explains how to do a button hole loop stitch; http://ysolda.com/support/tutorials/sewn-button-loops/ . Once you have the front loop done you need to repeat this step on either side of the shoe to make the rest of the loops. Most espadrilles have a center back loop already like mine but if yours don't add another loop here. You should have 4 loops total for the next step!
Step 4: Lace Em' Up & Put Em' On!
Take your twill tape and cut the length in two for the laces. Start lacing from the front dividing the lace in half. Lace all the way around either side and then double lace the back loop. Now put them on and criss cross wrap the laces across the front of your leg and tie a pretty bow on the back of your leg and hey! It's a wrap in a snap!
