Eco Processing I TetraPaks

Welcome to LABracadabra!

LABracadabra is a art, movement and sustainability experimental residency nestled in the coconut groves of Koh Phangan, Thailand. We aim to provide a space to share, practice and develop knowledge for crafts, movement and sustainable living.
Founded by three friends from different backgrounds, LABracadabra is a place for everyone and anyone to make magic. We operate as a small artist residency but we also provide space, tools and materials to external makers and flowmies to let their creativity out and learn from the community.

We are jacks of all trades.
We apply radical self reliance within a healthy collective boundary living structure.

We are doers who aspire grow towards sustainability on our journey to zero waste.

We collaborate to find, apply and share solutions.

We believe anything made with passion and dedication is art.

We reduce, reuse, recycle and upcycle as an art of living. We live in the jungle on an island, thus our resources are limited, which makes our makers adventures daily challenges !

The first step to reusing what we would otherwise discard is Eco processing : Trash only becomes a useful raw material if processed and stored correctly.

Our EcoProcessing instructable series aims to help you build efficient Eco habits.

Hope you find it useful, don't hesitate to leave your input in the comments if you have any question or suggestion, we'd love to brainstorm with you !

Step 1: Opening Tetra Pak

Open Tetrapak with a straight line close to the glued line, it doesn't affect pouring efficiency and will allow you to make the most out of the material

Step 2: The Most Obvious One... Drink UP !

hope you know how to do this one ;)

Step 3: NO Procrastination !!! (We Know You Do It)

DO NOT WAIT TO ECO PROCESS!! Don't procrastinate this, do it as soon as your product is empty to avoid rotting and spoiling the material. Works for the other stuff in your life too, just sayin'...

Step 4: Unfold the Corners of the Box

Pop open those corners to allow thorough cleaning

Step 5: Separating Materials

Remove the HDPE Cap and attachment if any. Clean parts and store accordingly.

Note : when collecting HDPE parts for recycling in a Precious Plastic process, best to only keep the cap itself for that purpose. The part attached to the TetraPak usually comes off with bits of plastic film and cardboard on it. Thus this part is best used shredded in EcoBricks.

Step 6: Cut Tetra Pak Open

Cut the top line close to the glued line all the way.

Unfortunately we haven't figured out what to do with those glued lines bits, so for now we toss them :(... but if you have an upcycling idea for them, please let us know !!

Step 7: Clean & Rinse

Use a bit of water & soap to clean the inside of the carton. Try not to soak it too much, else the different layers of the Tetra Pak sheet will start separating.

Step 8: Drying the Right Way

Leave to dry on a meshy surface of hanging to avoid remaining water to sip back in and separate the different layers.

Step 9: Start Upcycling!

Here are a few things we do with our Tetra Paks at LABracadabra. Please let us know if you'd like to learn how to make them!
