Introduction: Electron-An Innovative Way to Write With Light

Hello Guys We are back...

One can write with many things like pen, pencil,OR crayons...

But what about writing with light....

We have innovated a new technique to write with light.

We have got this idea from Make It Glow 2014 sponsored by RadioShack.

As we know that today many things are made from some substances that glow when light falls on them or they gain energy from light...

Today,we can buy many glow paints or elements like Radium which are effective catchers of light OR energy gainers from light.

So why not use them to make a board on which we can write with light.

So lets start making this instructable.

This consists of a writing instrument and a board on which we can write with light...

Step 1: Apparatus Used...

So For Making We Need These Tools-

  • Soldering Iron
  • Sand Paper
  • Multimeter
  • Wire Stripper
  • Tape
  • And Scissors...

And For The Writing Instruments We Need-

  • 2 Blue LED(Or Any Color You Like)
  • 6-1.5v Button Cells
  • 2 Pens
  • Some Wires
  • 2 Push Buttons

For the Writing Board We need-

  • Glow Paint OR Glowing Object

That's All you Need So lets Start Making It...

Step 2: Preparing the Pen....

We Need A Normal Pen Not A Click or Fountain Pen..

And One More Important Thing You should Not choose a pen that is transparent

Disassemble The Pen ...

Remove its Refill(It Is To Be Used But Afterwards So Don't Throw it)

Carefully Take All its Pieces Out...

Don't throw anything...

If Your Pen Is too big That the Cell Can Go Inside

Then You Need To Move to Next Step,But If Not Read This Step....

Shorten The Pen 2cm From Back after removing its Back Cap....

Shorten The refill 2.5cm....

Then Sand Both To make The Surface Smooth.....

Now Open The Refill(That We Had Taken Out Earlier)

And Clean all The Ink From Inside By Using cotton swabs Or Any other Cloth....

After cleaning move to next step...

Step 3: Preparing the LED and the Circuit...

First of all you should check whether your LED Can be inserted through the front opening of the pen..

If yes then its ok,But if not...

then you Can sand The led from all sides to make it fit

You Can see the results of sanding....above...

Now check whether its working or not ...

Make sure that you have not damaged the front part of the led..

And Don't Sand It To Much...

You Can Damage The Led....

Connect the cells and make a battery pack as shown in the pics ...
Remember to make it slim and not big than the diameter of pen body...

Then Make The Button Round By Sanding It so It Looks Nice and becomes smooth

But Remember to not Harm Its Inner Circuit...

Now Cut Wires (Of Blue,Green ,Black,Or Red Color So it shows Ink)More Than The Length Of Refill...

Cut Two Wires And Then Insert Them Through The refill...

And now connect everything as shown in circuit and We have also attached PCB circuit

Use Pics as Guidelines...

Step 4: Finishing the Pen..

Now check that all the circuit is working

And the Led is bright if not then add extra cells......

Now Enclose The Pen And seal the circuit with Tape

and at last Check Everything...

If anything is not working please use multimeter to check everything

and then after enclosing the circuit in the pen

Make sure that everything is slim

And the Electron is Light Weight...

to have it in Pocket OR Hand

So Our writing Instrument Is Finished So Lets Move To our Writing Board

Step 5: Writing With Electron..

So to write with the Electron.....

We need anything that glows when light is thrown on it...

You can Use Anything available Locally..

Here we Have used some friendship bands that glow due to glowy paint present in them..

You can also use glowy stickers....

So We Have Finished This Instructable....

Have Fun..
