Introduction: Fashionable Swimsuit Cover

In these hot summer days a dip in the pool is a perfect refresher, but when I am lounging around the pool in the sun using a towel to cover up is not fashionable and is very uncomfortable. That is why I sewed this easy-on easy-off fashionable yet stylish swimsuit cover. To make this project I did not use any pattens to guide me along. I used a sewing machine to attach the fabric together. I found two purple scarves at a recycled clothing store and used them to craft the dress. For the fringe on the sleeves I cut off the edges of the plain lavender scarf to give the sleeves some detail.

This project is recommended for: Advanced sewers

Supplies

  • 2 purple scarves
  • Pins
  • Snaps or fasteners
  • Sewing machine

Step 1: Gathering My Materials

First I gathered all of my materials. I purchased some purple and blue scarves and later on I chose which ones I wanted to use. I used a sewing machine with light purple thread to match the scarves that would be crafted into the swimsuit cover up.

Step 2: Shaping the Coverup

Next, I cut the body of the coverup. I cut a slight slant on the bottom of the shaped dress to give it a cute style. I attached a panel that wraps around and becomes a wrapped bottom with a slanted side.

Step 3: Pinning and Sewing

Next I pinned all of the pieces in place and sewed them together. I only sewed one side of the patterned panel to the lavender fabric so that I could wrap the other side of the patterned panel underneath the lavender fabric and fasten it with snaps.

Step 4: The Snaps, Sleeves, and the Bottom of the Skirt

Next, I hand sewed on the snaps in three places so that the dress would look closed and I could easily put it on. Then, I prepared and sewed the fringy sleeves on. I sewed the front two pieces close together to make the dress more comfortable and velcroed the ends together in the back. I added a detachable end-skirt to wear if I were to go out to a restaurant or if I just wanted a little more cover.

Step 5: How to Get It on and Off

First, unbutton the three snaps.

Next, slip the sleeves over your head.

Finally, the dress will come very easily and it will also be easy to put back on.

Step 6: Finished!
