If you like the look of wrought iron, but not the price or the weight, this is the perfect instructable for you.
You can achieve that look using materials that will otherwise end up in the trash can, and tools that you already have.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
- Toilet paper rolls
- Black spray paint
- Measuring tape
- Metallic square
- Paint brush
- Glue gun
- White school glue
You could use a frame you already have, or make a simple one with:
- Four pieces of lumber
- Metal corner braces
- Sawtooth frame hanger
Step 2: Make the Frame
If you don't have one already, start by making the frame.
Just drill the metal corner braces to secure two pieces of wood, attach the sawtooth frame hanger with screws too.
Step 3: Cut the Toilet Paper Roll
Cut open the paper rolls.
With the ruler measure every 1.5 cms. If you use a square it's easier.
For the parts where the cardboard is unfolding, glue it back with school glue. Use a clothespin to hold it together.
Step 4: Shape the Paper Rolls
Begin forming your design. You could get ideas for your design from pictures of real wrought iron.
Make different shapes, some swirls, flowers, hearts.
For more swirly shapes, I used a spoon to help me curl the roll.
Step 5: Glue
To stick the pieces use hot glue. Use the clothespin to hold the pieces together.
Step 6: Paint It
Put your design inside the frame, so you can see if there are spots where more pieces are needed.
Once you have the perfect size, take it out and paint it with black spray paint. Paint it with several coats until everything is covered.
Step 7: Glue
Finally, when the paint has dried off, glue all the parts that make contact with the frame with hot glue.
