Step 1: Remove Grab Handle

For instruction purposes only this repair is carried out on the bench, this repair can and should be carried out in situe on the vehicle.

Remove grab handle by unscrewing 2x 10mm bolts.

Step 2: Remove Latch Surround

Remove the latch lever plastic surround by holding open the lever and unscrewing the screw underneath. Slide the plastic trim out.

Step 3: Remove Door Trim

Now prise away the door card, start at the base of the door and work around the trim until free.

Dependant on if the door panel has been off before or not, you may find a plastic sheet covering the door components, if care is taken this can be removed in one piece and can be reused.

Step 4: Raise Window

  • Raise the window so that the window base is above the locking mechanism this allows access to the control rods at the top.
  • Disconnect the vehicles battery.

Step 5: Loosen Window Frame.

Loosen window frame by removing the two bolts shown.

Step 6: Lift Window Frame

Disconnect electrical connectors to the mirror and carefully lift the window frame so that the bottom of the frame is above the door latch allowing access.

Step 7: Release Door Lock

Unscrew the latch lever and twist linkage out of position

Disconnect door lock actuator.

Remove top two linkages shown.

Release door lock, remove the two large screws on the edge of the door and 13mm bolt on the face, on this bolt there is a spacer between the lock mechanism and the door skin, take care to retain this.

Move the door lock up to the upper opening.

Step 8: Remove Lock

    Disconnect toothed clip with small pliers and remove linkage.

    We recommend not removing the linkage to the door handle from the locking mechanism as this can be hard to re-adjust.

    Move lock down and remove from bottom opening in door.

    Step 9: Fit New Spring

    Position lock as shown, you will see from image where spring should be located, remove remains of old spring if evident.

    Fit the new spring in to the round hole first, using a small screw driver prise the other end in to the triangular hole.


    Test the operation of the spring and reinstall.
