Introduction: Garden Gmome Sprinkler System

This indestructable will teach you to make a creative sprinkler system for your yard.
The idea is to hide the ugly store bought sprinkler system and lightning up the yard.

MATERIALS

200-300 ft of hose
at least 5 PLASTIC garden gnomes
a weekend
plastic bottles smaller than the gnomes

All other materials will be described in the proses.

Step 1: Your Yard

This inedtructable is best for some one that has a small to medium yard.
The first step is to go to this link , type in your address and mark where you want to place each gnome.
Heres the link. Be sure to use satellite view.

Step 2: Your Yard (continued)

Print out the birds eye view of your yard and mark where you want to put your gnomes.
The picture shows how to mark your lawn.

On this map used a random yard and marked red circles that stand for each sprinklers range.
I didn't put any sprinklers in the back yard and specialty marked a dark green circle where there was a tree and had no grass to water.

REMEMBER:

Each sprinkler has a certain radius it sprays on, keep this in mind, some grass can get too much water, some might not get enough.

Step 3: Making the Sprinklers.

To make the sprinklers you will first need to cut a circle in the bottom of each garden gnome, in the base.
Next you will need to find a plastic bottle that is smaller than your gnome.
I will show you where to cut it.
Use a utility knife.

There is a picture of a utility knife in case you don't know what it looks like.

Step 4: Making the Sprinklers (continued).

For the sprinklers to work you need to put the bottle inside the hollow plastic gnome.
Also on the gnome you will need to cut slots, not perfectly, but close to where the slots on the bottle are.
After inserting the bottle and cutting the slots, its time to install hose.
You might be able to find the attachment for the hose in a home improvement store.teps.
If not, follow the steps on the next page.

Step 5: Making It Fit.

If you don't find the attachments at the store make the next best thing.

1 Find LIQUID NAILS brand shower and tub adhesive. You CAN find it a home improvement store.
Heres a pic. Also theres the picture of the gun you need to get to squeeze the adhesive out.

2 Put a lot of the adhesive on the threads of the end of the hose you are going to attach to the bottle.
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET ANY IN THE HOSE, JUST THE THREAD. Theres a picture of the thread, the thread is the gold part.

3 Be sure to make another hole in the gnome in his/her foot like shown in the picture in the previous step. This will let the gnome stand up.

4 After gluing the bottle and hose together wait 24 hours before doing anything else.

5 Put some rocks in the gnome and seal the part where you cut the holes in gnome with premix cement.

Step 6: Finishing Up.

To finish your sprinkler system repeat with all the gnomes, and follow these steps.

1 All the ends of the hoses that go from the gnomes must be all connected with a attachment, use the "y" piece to connect all the pieces to the main water supply for the sprinkler system, using an out door faucet should work fine.

2 All those hoses going thou your yard can be a trip hazard and make mowing your lawn difficult so you will need to berry them. CALL 811 BEFORE YOU DIGG SO YOU DON'T HIT ANY PIPELINES OR CABLES. To bury the hose find the pipe in the picture and by the 2-3 diameter one. You will need slightly more than the length of the hose.

3 Put the hose through the pipe and berry it in a 6 trench.

4 Connect every thing and watch those gnomes water your lawn.
