Intro: How to Build a Cofferdam Brace

When using cofferdams for flood control on slopes, a bracing system is necessary. This DIY Instructable will guide you through five simple steps to help you build your own cofferdam brace.

To build a cofferdam brace, you will need the following:
    - Safety glasses - SAFETY FIRST!
    - Three 10' 2x4s (new or used)
    - 16 3" #8 self-drilling screws or nails
    - Hand saw with miter box
    - Screwdriver or Drill with driver head
    - Hammer (if using nails)
    - Tape Measure
    - Protractor
    - Pencil

Step 1: Cut the Wood

Cut the pieces of the brace to the dimensions and angles shown on the drawing.

Step 2: Assemble

Screw or nail the pieces of the brace together.  Be sure to use the dimensions from the drawing to assemble the brace correctly.

Step 3: Repeat

Now repeat steps 2 and 3 to make a second brace.

Step 4: Connect Braces With a Beam

Connect an 8' beam over the top of both braces as shown in the picture.  This can be done with screws or nails.

Step 5: Setup

Set the bracing system 6' from each side of the cofferdam.

These kids developed this project for their middle school's SAME SMP team and presented it today at the competition.

They did a great job and this is a really great solution for bracing cofferdams on slopes.

Fingers crossed that they earn some awards from the competition.
