Step 1: Collect Your Materials
You will need:
• Nail polish
• Fine glitter
• Nail hardener
• Nail polish remover
• Nail file
• Paper clip
• Piece of paper to catch glitter
*For best effect, your polish and glitter should be corresponding colors (i.e. pink and dark pink, blue and turquoise).
Step 2: The Prep Step
Remove any old polish with alcohol based polish remover. Wait approximately 20 minutes for the remover to dry so your nail polish stays on longer. File the top of nails to create a better surface for “glittering”.
Step 3: The First Coat
Neatly paint a base coat of your selected color on all toenails. Use an uncoiled paper clip to clean up any messy edges. Wait for polish to dry.
Step 4: Paint...Glitter...Paint...Glitter
Place a paper towel under your feet to catch the excess glitter. Apply a coat of nail hardener on one nail, then immediately sprinkle a layer of glitter on nail while it is still wet. Gently tap toe to remove extra glitter. Move on to the next nail and repeat the process until all nails have been glittered. Use the paper clip again to sharpen the edges.
Step 5: The Waiting Game
Wait about 20-30 minutes for the hardener to dry and keep the glitter in place. Avoid any activities that could smudge or soften your toenails...such as tap dancing, swimming, or running a marathon.
Step 6: The Last Coat
Apply another coat of nail hardener to all of your toes. It should be thick enough that you can’t feel the bumps of the glitter anymore. This will make sure the glitter doesn’t snag or chip off.
And there you have it! Salon-worthy toes in less than an hour, and you didn't even have to leave your house! Save money, have fun, and glitterfy!
