Glow Stick Lantern

Making Glow Sticks lantern are a perfect project to make with the kids after Halloween and you do not know what to do with the extra glow sticks from Halloween besides throw them away! These last ~10HR, you can also use Fabric paint if you want them to last longer

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Your Material

For this project you will need:

  1. Mason Jars (preferably smaller)
  2. Glow Sticks (More the better) or Fabric Paint (Glow in the Dark)
  3. Glitter (just to make it pop more

Step 2: Step 2: Open and Choose Your Colors

Choose the colors you want to use for your lantern. I used about ~5 of each color, and needed way more!

Step 3: Step 3: Activate Your Glow Sticks

After picking your colors activate the glow sticks to make them glow!

Step 4: Step 4: Tilt Glow Sticks Up Right to Make Air Pocket to Cut

After activating all of the glow sticks put the glow sticks up right in the mason jar for 5-10 minutes to let the fluid.

Step 5: Step 5: Cut the Glow Sticks Open

Be careful, this can be messy if all of the glow sticks did not settle. I leave the "tips" of the glow sticks in the jar, and it adds a cool effect!

Step 6: Step 6: Let the Glow Sticks Drain

Leave the glow sticks in the mason jar for 5-10 minutes again to let fluid drain

Step 7: Step 7: Cut the Top Off Again Once It Has Started to Drain

Inside tip I found, if you cut the top of the glow sticks off (be careful not to make a mess), it will drain much faster!

Step 8: Step 8: Add Glitter

By adding glitter to the glow stick fluid it just adds a little flair that makes it pop! Not required but recommended, I added 4 pinches.

Step 9: Step 9: Seal the Mason Jar

After adding your desired about of glitter top and seal the mason jar.

Step 10: Step 10: Shake the Mason Jar and Enjoy!

Shaking the glow stick lantern will now allow the fluid to flow around the sides and make a "lattern" effect.

Step 11: The Final Result

This is what the final product looks like. By adding water to the lantern it helps the "glow" more, but much more glow sticks are required!

I have made several of these. It is really interesting to see in person.
