Introduction: Golden Zipper-Face Costume

About: Synth chick for electro-rock band, Former Human Beings

This is my rather delicate take on the gory, bloody zipper face costume. Instead of unzipping my face to expose my guts, I'm revealing my sparkly gold being. There is no need for a special effects makeup kit or liquid latex here; I just used stuff from my bathroom and crafts room. Follow along if you want to unzip to shine!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

You will need:

  • 1 14" flesh-coloured zipper
  • scissors
  • eyelash glue
  • cheap toilet paper (or 1 ply from fancy TP)
  • foundation makeup
  • petroleum jelly
  • gold glitter
  • small paintbrush

Step 2: Cut the Zipper

Hold the zipper against your face, the top between your eyebrows, the bottom curving under your chin. Trim excess under your jawbone. I like it to go almost to my neck.

Step 3: Glue It to Your Face

Put a good amount of eyelash glue on the back of the zipper. Let it stand one minute so it becomes tacky before you press it against your face. Press top down from between your brows, opening down around your nose and mouth, then tuck under your chin. Hold in place for a couple minutes.

Step 4: Blending

Start dabbing foundation onto the cloth part of the zipper itself and onto your cheeks so the zipper blends into your skin. Add dabs of eyelash glue on the parts where the cloth zipper meets your cheeks, then add little bits of the toilet paper. Make sure they are well saturated with glue. Allow to dry, then cover with foundation.

Step 5: Adding the Gold

Begin dabbing petroleum jelly all over your nose, lips, and chin. Place a good amount of loose glitter all over the jelly. Use your paintbrush to get glitter in the corners near and right under the zipper. Do not get glitter on the zipper.

Step 6: The Act of Unzipping

Yes, it's an act. ;) Hold that pose to be dramatic, keeping a straight face as much as possible. I naturally smile a lot and could see the seams showed tons more when I did so.

That's one of the best executions of "Just throw a little glitter on it" I've seen in a while. You have my vote.

Wow! That’s a great low cost idea that looks like a highly expensive professional make-up job!
    Kudos...
