Valentine's Day is a time for thinking of those who are a special part of our lives and have a Special Place in our HEARTS......Think of all the Special things you can keep in a Heart Shaped Box.....
This Instructable will teach you to make a lovely ceramic box. 

Step 1: Supplies

Clay
rolling pin
large and medium size heart cookie cutters
1 1/2" X 13" template
underglazes
glaze
brushes
clay cutting tool
access to a kiln

Step 2: Roll Clay

roll clay large enough to cut 1 1/2" X 13" template and large Heart

Step 3:

Step 4:

rub the outside edge of the heart shape with slip. Slip is clay that had been made pasty by adding a lot of water. 

Step 5:

place the long strip of clay on the slip that is on the heart shape. The slip will act as glue to attach the wall of the heart shaped box

Step 6:

remove excess clay

Step 8:

use more slip to mend the opening in the clay

Step 9:


Step 10: Cover

roll more clay to cut another large heart shape and a medium heart shape

Step 11:

rub the smaller heart with clay glue

Step 12:

stick the hearts together, The smaller heart on the underside of the heart shaped lid helps prevent it from sliding off.

Step 13:

let the clay dry completely

Step 14:

when dry use a sponge to clean all edges

Step 15: Underglaze

Fire the clay in the  kiln to turn to bisque. Use underglaze paint to decorate the ceramic heart shaped box and lid

Step 16: Glaze

glaze and re-fire in kiln

Step 17: Finished

fill your heart with LOVE!!!!
