Several years ago I was house sitting for a friend of mine. She insisted that I try her raspberry pepper jam while I was there. I had never heard of a jam made with hot peppers. The next morning I had remembered the jam, so I put it on my morning toast. I thought the raspberries were wonderful but I did not notice any pepper flavor Until . . . . a minute or so after I had taken my first bite. Then came the unexpected kick. It was quite a surprise. It was the best jam that I had ever eaten. This experience prompted me to try a pepper flavored coffee. I do not like coffee but I thought it would be fun to try it on my husband. I had to make it on the mild side because he does not appreciate spicy drinks as much as I do. As it turned out he did not particularly like the flavor of the coffee because he enjoys classic coffee. On the other-hand I tried it and liked it. It surprised me because I like the smell of coffee when you first open a new container and while it is brewing, but have never acquired a taste for it. I will drink coffee on occasion as long as I use this recipe.

Step 1: Ingredients
Coffee Beans or grounds ( Fresh beans works the best )
Dash of salt not shown
Ground crystallized ginger
Pinch Habanero pepper
Turbinado sugar or regular sugar
Cream or whip cream ( Non dairy creamer is not recommended )
Bottled Spring water
The recipe is in step 3.
Step 2: Tools
Coffee grinder optional
Small glass container with lid
Shallow dish for the sugar not shown
Step 3: Recipe
Measure the ingredients and put them in the bowl together:
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon Crystallized ginger
1/2 teaspoon Allspice
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
Pinch Habanero pepper
Mix very well.
Grind 1 cup of the coffee beans.
Add the spices to the coffee beans.
Mix very very well by shaking.
The Water, and salt will be used to brew the coffee.
Step 4: Coffee
Brew the coffee using the seasoned ground coffee, pinch of salt, and spring water.
While the coffee is brewing go to the next step.
Step 5: Preparations
Pour enough of the turbinado sugar in a shallow dish to coat the coffee cup rim.
Wet the rim of the coffee cup with water.
Dip the coffee cup into the sugar to coat the rim.
Step 6: The Coffee
Pour coffee into the coffee cup.
Top with whip cream.
Sprinkle the top of the whip cream with a dash of cinnamon.
Step 7: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts
I served this coffee with a cookie topped with raspberry jam, a dash of Habanero pepper, and a slice of lime. The lime brings out the flavor of the pepper. I felt it needed a little sugar flavor to bring out the spices so I added the sugar to the rim of the coffee cup. The next time I make it, I will add a lot more pepper. I recommended just a dash for this recipe but you may add more if you love it hot and spicy. This coffee blend would be the perfect gift for spicy food lovers!
