Introduction: 3D Printed Halloween Pencil Holder

About: Robotics and Manufacturing Student at RIT. I try to accelerate learning through projects when I have the time. Haven't had much to share in the past few years, but hope to soon!

Using tinkercad I created a dual color Jack-o-Lantern pencil, pen, or marker holder. These instructions are for single and dual color printing.

Tinkercad, the free, online 3D design and 3D printing app.

Step 1: Design

For Single Color

Not recommended for dual color

    1. In Tinkercad editor start by creating a pumpkin
    2. I made mine by making a low-quality 3D oval shape and duplicating it in circle and then added one in center DON'T USE HIGH QUALITY IT IS HARD TO WORK WITH AND SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO DOWNLOAD
    3. Copy it
    4. Shrink copy
    5. copy copy
    6. make second copy hole cut it into pumpkin's center
    7. give it eyes by using two triangles
    8. give it a mouth using a half circle then cutting out to what you want
    9. cut eyes and mouth into pumpkin
    10. Align small pumpkin(copy) with the large hollow pumpkin
    11. group
    12. duplicate that in a circle your chosen size the less pumpkins the easier it is to work with
    13. Duplicate move up twist by 12.25 degrees and duplicate several times
    14. added cylinder to bottom to created flat surface
    15. Cut hole into it

Unfortunately dual color does not work properly with this method as pumpkin mouth gets messed up so I created instructions for anyone who wants to print in dual color as well.

    For Dual color

Do not use for single color as faces will not be visible

      3. Copy it twice
      4. shrink copy
      5. make copy hole and cut it into the pumpkins center
      6. give it eyes using two triangles
      7. give it a mouth using a half circle and cutting out what you want
      8. align to middle of front
      9. duplicate eyes and mouth
      10. switch duplicate to hole
      11. cut that into pumpkin
      12. create a large cube
      13. switch second copy of pumpkin into hole
      14. align and group with cube
      15. switch that two hole
      16. align with pumpkin
      17. group everything
      18. duplicate that in a circle your chosen size the less pumpkins the easier it is to work with
      19. Duplicate move up twist by 12.25 degrees and duplicate several times
      20. added cylinder to bottom to created flat surface
      21. Cut hole into it

        Step 2: Files

        Here are files for mine

OBJ for dual color 3d printing (I recommend you download the new version, old version uses single color design style and does not print faces correctly)

        Stl for single color

        Step 3: Printing

        Dual Color

This is probably around a 25-40 hour print in .2 mm quality and dual color. 27 hours for old version

        33 hours for me

        Single Color

It is probably around a 10-20 hour print in single color at .2 mm quality. around 17 hours for me

For some random reason estimates are very high for print time and extremely inaccurate

        Step 4: Please Vote
