Introduction: Healthy Lemon Apple Smoothie

About: Michael's Test Kitchen - FOOD - SUGAR - RECIPES

This healthy apple lemon smoothie is great for the mornings; a perfect way to get your fruit servings in for the day.

Step 1: Ingredients

Ingredients (makes 2 servings)

1 apple, cored

1/2 a lemon, peeled

1/2 a peeled banana

2 tablespoons honey

1/2 cup water

2/3 cup orange juice (I like mango nectar better)

1 1/2 cups frozen mango chunks (you can also use pineapple chunks, frozen, if you are pressed to)

Step 2: Preparing the Apple

If you already know how to cut an apple (as I expect you do) then you don't have to look too carefully over these instructions. In a nutshell, cut and core the apple, and then put it in the blender.

MORE DETAILED:

Cut the apple lengthwise in half, as shown.

Cut each half into quarters.

Cut the top hard seed stuff off the top of each quarter.

Place in blender.

Easy, huh?

Step 3: Preparing the Lemon

A slightly more time-consuming method, this is. This is the way I peel the skin of the lemon. (if you know some easier way, I please comment :D)

First, cut skin-deep lengthwise cuts from top to bottom of lemon. (make sure it is only skin deep).

then cut top off lemon. Peel away the strips of lemon skin, starting from the top cut side, and peeling to the bottom. You will need to use your fingernails. :).

then cut bottom end off to complete. You will only need a half of this lemon, so cut in half, and place one half in blender. Store the other half in a plastic bag in the fridge.

Step 4: Blend It All Up

After you have already placed the lemon and apple in the blender, throw in the rest in ingredients in the order listed: (honey, banana, water, orange/mango juice/nectar, and mango chunks.) If you have a Vita-mix, then put it on the 'Smoothie' setting, if you have a pre-set. If you don't have a preset blender, then just blend on high until smooth in texture, about one minute.
