Step 1: Home Remedy for Dengue.
Dengue has become a widely spread disease today, even medication giving by doctors are not always effective. It is said that the best medicine for dengue is the juice of the Papaya leaf. It is been tried and tested successfully by many who have been affected by dengue and all of them have given a positive feedback. It was also featured in the national media, you can read it here.
Things you need:
Fresh green Papaya leaves (A bunch of it) (pictured above)
Take the Papaya leaves (make sure it is fresh, better to cut it just before you start) and wash them thoroughly under running water. Now put them in the blender and add a few quarts of water and blend it. Now put the blended paste through a strainer and remove the juice. Add some water if required.
This juice has to be consumed when the person suffering from Dengue notices a drop in his/her platelet count. It is said that the drop in platelet count is cured by the leaf extract and therefore stabilizing the patient and “curing” Dengue.
A glass-full juice must be given to the patient twice (two times) a day until recovery.
Step 2: Home Remedy for Weight Control
The following methods are to manage your weight, my sister who is extremely worried about her weight follows this and says it is very effective in controlling and reducing her weight and also recommends this.
Things you need:
Honey (1 TSP)
Water (1 glass)
Heat up the water and bring to boil in a microwave/stove (your choice), allow the water to cool. Make sure it is above the room temp. and is still very hot but consumable.
Now add half a lemon and 1 TSP of honey, mix well until the honey dissolves and drink it immediately.
Put the bottle gourd in a juice extractor and take the juice.
Both of these are to be consumed twice a day, just after you get up in the morning and right before going back to bed at night.
Step 3: Getting a Healthier and Fairer Skin and Keeping Away Skin Diseases and Disorders
Getting a healthy and fair skin is a problem faced by many people irrespective of gender and age. Although people of different ages face skin problems because of different reasons, usually the “cure” for both are the same. Here are a few
Things you need:
Neem Leaves (Margosa Tree)
(Note: All the above things are to be used individually as indicated below. DO NOT mix them all)
Aloe Vera- Aloe Vera is a plant that works wonders on skin. Although people have multiple skin types, Aloe Vera is the king/queen (Whatever you prefer) of them all. Cut a few stems of Aloe (It does not have leaves, leaves are transformed into thorns to reduce transpiration, for protection etc. which are totally not required here). Now squash the aloe stems and get the gel out of them and apply directly onto your skin. Let it dry for a few minutes and then wash off with hot water and make sure you don’t use soap. You can also squash them and put them in your bathtub during a bath.
Honey again is a powerful item. First of all it tastes awesome and second of all its just very beneficial for your body. It can make your skin glow with radiance and also can help you use weight. You can use honey in your daily face pack or just gulp it down with warm water. It is also very healthy to swap your table sugar with Honey. It helps you get a beautiful and also keeps your waistline thin. Just make sure you don’t put honey onto your hair, or you will just end up greying them.
Aspirin in beauty is a new thing, although not exactly a home remedy it still serves the purpose. Just crush the aspirin with a mortar and pestle and mix it with your daily face pack to get a glowing skin.
Tomato and banana are one of the most common fruits used in a spa for skin treatment. Peel out both the banana and tomato and make their respective pastes separately and rub it on your skin one after the other to get a soft and smooth skin.
Neem (Margosa Tree) is considered the greatest medicine in Ayurveda. Its leaf, stem, bark, flower and fruit is used to cure a number of diseases. It is also a natural dis-infectant. You can pluck out a few twigs with fresh leaves and put it in your bath-tub to get a clean bath (contradictory statement- clean bath). Neem leaf can be put under your bed to get rid of bed bugs, you can place it in your bag of rice to get rid of insects etc. Collect neem leaves and grind them into a paste and put it on acne, the natural dis-infectant destroys the acne causing bacteria and removes the acne.
Step 4: Curing a Hangover!
Well this step is the most important one for every party goer. Ever experienced a wonderful Sunday filled with drinking games and more drinks and couldn’t move on a Monday because of that nasty hangover? Well, here are a couple of solutions for this.
Things you need:
Lemons & Honey
Yogurt or buttermilk
Rice and curry
1. Squeeze one whole lemon into a glass of warm water and put in a tsp. of honey, mix it well and drink it. Lemon has many health benefits which include flushing your liver, curing hangovers etc. The honey you add contains fructose which aids in faster metabolism of alcohol. You can also drink some fruit juice for the same reason as above
2. Drink a large glass of buttermilk (yogurt + water) when hung-over, my friends tell me that this is the best cure for their hangovers
3. Bananas have a lot of potassium in them and since you would be peeing all the time you might need to replenish the potassium in your body
4. Ginger again is a multi-purpose home remedy. Brew some ginger tea (crush ginger and boil it in small amount of water) and drink lots of it. Ginger is one of the best cures for hangovers
5. Rice and curry- Although this is not recommended in case of really bad hangovers its safe to eat some food after you have reached tolerable limits.
Step 5: Home Remedy for Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder seen in a few people. It is characterized by seizures. Although this remedy is not an instant cure, under long term use it has shown positive effects on people.
A plant by the name of Brahmi (Bacopa/Bacopa monnieri) (in picture) is a herb which has properties that improve nervous function, mental activities. Here in India it is sometimes given to children to improve their intellect and other cognitive abilities. It is said to relieve nervous irritation, elevate the level of cerebral glutamic acid and temporarily increase the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) level in the brain which is helpful in learning process. It also increases superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels, catalase (CAT) levels, and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activities in the brain, which improves cognitive performance.
Things you need:
Just pluck out the leaves from the ground and wash it and consume it directly once every day. You also get Bramhi pills
Step 6: Step 6: Curing Motion Sickness, Nausea and Vomiting
Most of us fear travelling because we have motion sickness which makes us puke our guts out. Well here is one remedy for that.
Nausea and vomiting is another problem similar to motion sickness caused due to various reasons. Now all you need to do is follow this step to get rid of it.
Things you need:
This time you don’t need to drink the lemon juice instead carry a lemon in your pocket while travelling, when you start feeling sick, take it out press the skin and breathe in the aroma of the lemon. Although it doesn't sound complex it definitely works. So much so, that I carry a lemon whenever I go on a long drive. Trust me it works!
Ginger has proved to be a great cure for nausea. You can bite into some ginger (Not good) or you can brew some ginger tea or ale and drink it to get a cure from indigestion, diarrhoea and inflammatory diseases like arthritis.
Step 7: Step 7: Cure for Sore Throat, Cough, Common Cold and Other Throat Problem
There have been times when every one of us have suffered from a very bad throat problem which has made us dis-functional in certain areas (LOL)
Now here are a couple of home remedies for that sore throat or cough that you just can’t get rid of.
Things you need:
Pepper and rock salt
Take two pepper seeds and equal amount of rock salt and put it into your mouth and chew slowly. Include a green chilli and chew it with you molars slowly so that the juices flow into your throat. This is definitely a bang for your buck and its success rate is 100%. But remember “No pain, No gain”
Then there is another plant called Tulasi(Holy Basil/Ocimum sanctum) it is a sacred plant in Hinduism and I am sure you would find one in every Hindu’s house. It has antioxidant properties and others which help in managing respiratory disorders like bronchitis. Although that is an extreme case, I have been given the juice of this plant and I have definitely been relieved of cough after a few repeated uses.
Chewing a clove of garlic is also said to be a good remedy for both cough and cold, but beware garlics are really hot and can set your tongue on fire but at the same time its going to blast through your cough/cold
Step 8: Step 8: Hydration
Water is the most abundant compound on earth and inside your body. The water therapy as I call it, is the best way to keep yourself healthy all the time. Just keep drinking loads of water. It flushes out the toxins in your body and keeps away diseases. It helps control your body fat and also keeps you awake during a sleepy class or a boring meeting
These are some of the home remedies that I have known since a long time and wished to share with all you people. Try these remedies without fear, because they are all natural and most of them have been scientifically proved too. So when ever you’ve got any of the above problems try these remedies without any hesitation.
