We all know dog food can be expensive
Especially if you want to get a nutritious one for you pooch
That’s why I have started cooking my dog’s own food now
It saves me money and worry
Not only is this dog food nutritious and beneficial for you dog, it is also very delicious, my pooch loves it and can’t wait to dog in when he sees me pouring it
My dog is 12 years old now and he needs nutritious dog food for his joint and his health overall
A year ago, I created a dog joint supplement on instructables and a lot of you loved it, thank you!
So for this instructable, I’ve decided to show you how I make my own dog food
I’ve been making his own food for about a year now
What’s great about this recipe is that it’s easy to make, you can substitute in any ingredients you pooch may not like, and it’s very budget friendly

Step 1: Ingredients

1 part Brown rice, safe for dogs, rich in nutrients, make be too hard on some dogs, especially young ones, I suggest blending the rice into a purée

2 parts water or chicken broth

1 part of Any kind of meat, make sure to use small pieces and make sure it is safe for your dog: chicken, turkey, beef. I like using chicken bones, cutting them up - great for joints and older dogs

1 part of vegetables, I like using carrots, squash, pumpkin, Brussels spouts, green beans. Make sure your dog likes it, some are very picky

1 tbs turmeric, it is anti-inflammatory, helps with joint pain, cardiovascular health, helps with cancer, arthritis, helps intestine and bowels stay healthy, your dog should be having 1/2 tsp of turmeric daily

2 tbs apple cider vinegar, Completely Safe for dogs, make sure the ingredients read apples and water. helps with digestion and gives your pooch a nice shiny coat. Some dogs may find it to have a bad taste, I like putting in just a bit and covering the smell with rice. My dog is very picky and he still eats his food which has apple cider vinegar

And that’s it

Step 2: Steps

Get a large pot and pour in the brown rice. Next add in the water. If the meat is raw, place it in the pot as well. Give it a slight stir and place it on the stove on medium heat following the instructions of the rice packet. Before the rice is fully cooked, toss in the vegetables and boil everything together. After the veggies and rice are soft and the meat is fully cooked, grab a potato masher and mash everything together. Add in your turmeric and vinegar and stir everything. I could see my dog licking his lips as I am stirring. Let it cool and store in refrigerator or freezer until ready to serve.

Step 3: Results

I've been making this dog food for about a year now and my dog loves it

This is a great budget friendly recipe, and is very nutritious as well as filling

Whenever I am cooking it, I see my dog peering at me and licking his lips as he smells the aroma

This is quick and easy to make

I hope your dog enjoys it!

You may wanna add some doggy vitamins to that. Some nutrition is lost though the cooking process. Also are you sure about Turmoric? Did you talk to a animal nutritionist to conferm its safe?

Hi. It can be either. I like using drumsticks because a lot of cartilage is still on it and it is so good for your dog.
