Introduction: How to Download, Convert and Play Youtube Videos for N00Bs

One fine day you are browsing youtube and you see a really cool video. You want to save it to your computer, or put it on your iPod or MP3/Video player to show your friends or watch again. But, you don't know how to get the video onto your computer.

Well now you can! in this instructable I will show you how to take a youtube URL and use it to make it a MPEG or AVI video. I will also show you how to download high-quality music off youtube as well.

Step 1: Step 1: Setup

In order to download and convert the files, you will need to have three programs:

The first is the free youtube downloader. This is a product from DVDVideosoft.com. They make free software that is really good and I would reccomend visiting their home page which can be found Here. Download the installer at the site Here.

The Second is the FLV to AVI/MPEG Converter by Pazera. This can also be found Here

The third (and optional) is the Youtube to Mp3 Converter (also by DVDVideosoft) which can be downloaded Here

Download and install all of the listed programs, then proceed to the next step -->

In case you were wondering, the icon on the right in the picture is the DVDVideosoft hub where you can launch the existing DVDVideosoft programs or download new ones automaticly. It comes with the youtube downloader and Mp3 converter

Step 2: Step 2: Set Up Directory

After installing all of the applications, We need to create a directory. In your videos file (from the start menu click the account name (its above documents and below the account picture) then click videos) Create a folder and name it youtube.

Now inside that folder make three other folders; one called FLV and one called AVE and one called MPEG


Step 3: Step 3: Downloading Video

For example's sake, you want to download one of my youtube videos, sayRocketry Two. Firstly, you wold go to that webpage so middle click This link to open it in a new tab in your web browser. Copy the url from the top bar.

Now open up the free youtube downloader.

Paste the URL in by pressing the paste button

Before you click download, change the output folder to the FLV folder that you created in your video folder.

Now click download.

Step 4: Step 4: Converting

Once it is done downloading, open up the FLV folder and there should be an unrecognised folder called Rocketry 2 there (the reason mine comes up as being recognised it that I have media monkey (very good for renaming and adding album art to MP3's) and it thinks that it can play it but it can't).

Now open up Pazera FLV to AVI/MPEG converter.

Drag the rocketry 2 FLV file into the blank space

Depending on what type of file you cant, press either the AVI or MPEG buttons as shown. Leave all the other settings the same.

When your all done click convert.

Step 5: Step 5: You Are Nearly Done!!!

Once the file has been converted, delete the old FLV video and delete the file from the converter and the youtube downloader!

Step 6: You Are Done!!!

I hope this worked for you and that you can download and play the youtube videos. I put mine on my Zreative Zen Vision M (it's a better media player than the iPod classic) to show my friends and watch myself for a lol or two.
