    Hi Everyone!

    Thanks for your amazing entries.

We've had an unfortunate bug in the display date which caused the voting to remain open, even though it was advertised as close.

As a result, the community has been able to see the process of eliminating the unavoidable multiple-account voting that result in skewed voter results.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and have now closed the voting polls.

Judging will begin on the 15th, with 25 awesome Instructables in the running.

Best of luck to you all!

Dumb question: Where do you find your rank?  I can't find mine.

ya im confused. befor i went to bed last night i was in 9th now this morning im in 12th. why are people still voting?

yeah... It really sucked for me.  I was 13th place by midnight on march 13th and then for some weird reason right before it closed on the afternoon on the 14th, I ended up being 24th.  I would have been a finalist if it closed when it was suppose to.  I even checked the night of daylight savings thinking the contest would close hawaii time.  It didn't, but no worries I was still 13th place until the afternoon on the 14th, then the contest closed and my rank dropped to 24th.  I don't know what caused my rapid drop in place right before the contest closed.
I worked hard on this tutorial, just for this contest.  It is hard not to be a little upset by this. I don't think I will be so enthusiastic to enter again in the future :(

Is something wacky going on with the voting?  This morning I had more than 50 votes and now I only have 17.  It seems to have happened to a number of the entrants......anyway, just a little confused.

I'm sorry I don't know how to tell how many votes a project gets and wish I could help you. All I know is that voting hasn't been closed as it was supposed to be and maybe this has had an effect on it?

Voting on this was supposed to close yesterday yet it is still going on a day later.

My project was number 6 in votes at midnight PST, now it has gone to number 11 due to the extra day of voting still being open and I noticed the Mario quilt has slipped down too.

Are all the extra votes made after voting was supposed to have closed going to be eliminated so those who actually did place by the end of the posted voting rule are treated fairly?

    Thanks for listening.

I had submitted my project last night before the deadline but it is awaiting review. Does that mean that it will be eligable for the contest? I really hope so.

I see that there is both a voting period and a judging period.  How is the winner determined?  (It is a really killer machine *covet* *covet* *covet*)

Voting is user voting. Anyone can vote for an entry. Half of the finalists are the top vote getters and the other half are selected by instructables staff.

Judging of the finalists is done by instructables staff and various other experts.

Thank you for your post!  I think instructables need to be more descriptive about their requirements and how projects are judged.  If you recall I am a new member and was confused about the contest.  I again was faced with a question  in submitting my instructable.  The email I received mentioned it was received and had to be viewed by a moderator and if it did not post correctly it probably did not meet the requirements and would have to be corrected and re-submitted.
My question is:  If the corrections are not made before midnight the 7th would that disqualify the entry altogether? The contest ends tonight and I assume no one will be moderating over the weekend.  I posted a Valentines contest video and later found out that it did not meet the requirements because it was a video.  It would be helpful to allow videos in contest if they accompany the written instructable.  Sometimes a visual with movement can clear up a question more easily.

Another question is:  if half the finalist are the top vote getters does that mean one should enter the contest as early as possible so that their instructable might receive more votes over the time period?

    Lots of good questions here.

The message you receive upon being admitted into the contest should have more information about judging.

If there was only a minor issue to be corrected for a late entry and was fixed on the first day that would be fine.

Good point about the video, we should be clearer about that in the future.

Videos can be included in the Instructable. If you have a regular Instructable and a video, it's best to combine them.

Ahh, voting strategy. Voting begins after the contest closes for entries so that all entries have the same amount of time to get votes. Some prefer to post last-minute so that the project is more current for readers while others post earlier to get more ratings before voting begins. It's up to you.

Thank you!  Here is the message I received: Hi Sylviasvideosfyi,

Your entry 'AWESOMELY, COZY, WARM, MINKIE QUILT!' for the 'Sew Warm Contest' has been accepted. The contest closes on Mar 7, 2010. 12:00 AM.

Congratulations, your Instructable has met the requirements to enter the Sew Warm Contest and has been accepted!

After the contest closes for entries on the night of January 3, it will be up for user voting from March 8 - March 14.

    Good luck,

I think they got the January date wrong?  I tried to find out how the winners are selected .  Nothing!  I assume it depends on votes, comments,  creativity and instructions.  Aside from that it is only a guess.  If contest rules were more informative,  I think there would be less people posting unnecessary questions that have already been answered.  A link could be provided to contest rules saving moderators a lot of time.    I think it would be most helpful to have a FAQ about the contest and instructable entries.  An example: I posted a video instructable a few failed times.  I have no idea why this happened.    It is easier to decide a project if we know what the judging is based on.  I also noticed where people posted that they had started a project and could not enter because they lived in another country.  On the how to enter page, it would be most helpful to have more detailed information. It will be useful for me to know that I can include a video to show those difficult steps that a picture will not emphasize.  A video will also aide in the textures that enhance an instructable.  Thanks again for your reply!  If winners are selected on ratings this too should be included in the how to enter rules.  I would include that entries need to allow several  days before contest ends to allow necessary changes to their instructable if a weekend is involved.

You need to submit it as an instructable. Click the submit button at the top of the page to get started. When you publish it you'll see options for entering it into the contest.
