With more and more people getting into DIY e liquid making, here is a step by step guide on making your own e liquid from scratch.

Step 1: What You Will Need

First of all you will need the following ingredients and some apparatus to get you started.

Propylene Glycol
Vegetable Glycerin
Nicotine (handle with caution)
Flavouring
A Measuring Jug
Syringes
Gloves (for handling Nicotine)
Empty bottles

A lot of e liquid vendors stock most of the equipment you will need to get you started.

Step 2: Warning

Before we continue I want to make sure you understand that Nicotine needs to be handled with care. ALWAYS use gloves when handling nicotine and if you accidentally spill any on yourself, wash it off thoroughly and if you feel unwell seek medical advice straight away. If you are getting into vaping and have never been a smoker then I would also advise to leave the nicotine out of your mixes. There is no need to get a nicotine habit when you can vape without it.

That said, lets move on to the next step!

Step 3: Calculating the Ingredients

Ok so you have all your ingredients and are ready to make a mix. Firstly lets go and get a calculator that we can use so we know how much of each ingredient we need. I always use the e liquid calculator here as I find it is the easiest to use but feel free to use your favorite one.

For this write up I am going to make 30ml with a nicotine strength of 36mg. I also want the mix to be a 70pg and 30vg blend using 5% flavouring.

Sound complicated? It really isnt, if you put those values into the calculator you will have an idea of how much of each ingredient you will need to put in.

In this example, you will need:

Nicotine juice 36 mg (100% PG) - 13.33ml
PG dilutant - 6.17ml
VG dilutant 9ml
Flavouring 1.5ml

Step 4: The Fun Part ... Making E Liquid

Ok, we now know how much of each ingredient we need to use so lets get on some rubber gloves and mix it right up!

First of all, fill up your syringe and put the VG and PG into an empty bottle. Once these are in I put the flavouring and the nicotine in last. Once you have them all in the bottle. Put the lid on and give it a good shake. Some people vape their mixes straight away, however I like to leave them to settle in a warm place for a couple of weeks, this is known as steeping.

Step 5: Thats All There Is to Making E Liquid!

I have also added a video above that shows the process of making e liquid being done. Once you get the hang of it you will be making e liquid in no time at all! The tough part is coming up with flavours that actually taste nice!
