How to Make Penny Coasters!




About: i like to do stuff that is fun.

Have a bunch of pennies lying around? MAKE COASTERS!!!!!!! Wooo. Not only will these coasters make you feel rich, all your friends will think your a millionaire. 
What you need:
1. Hot Glue Gun & Sticks
2. Cork
3. X-acto 
4.  41 PENNIES 

First, cut your cork to fit a penny square of 5x5 pennys, 25 total. 
Second, start to hot glue the pennies to the cork square. 
Third, after you have finished gluing the first layer of pennies on, glue a penny square of 4x4 (16 pennies) in the middle of the 5x5 square. 
Fourth, cut the visible cork from around the pennies so it looks nice and smooth. 
Fifth, set coaster down, and put drink on coaster. TA-DAAA

    Canada is discontinuing the penny, because it costs more to make them then what they are worth. I've decided to use my pennies to make some of these.

    You could resin coat the top as well, it would make sure they wouldn't ever pop apart and be shinny. Love this, I happen to have a ton of pennies!

    if you dont want a smushy/used look, you can let the pennies bathe in coca cola (regular non-diet) for a while, this will "polish" them to a brand new state
    to keep them in that state after you made the coaster, you'l have to cover it up with something like epoxy or hot-glue though. could be hard to get a nice even cover with that so cups and stuff dont fall off

    personally i like the grungy look, but yeah coke works wonders. you could try and use modge podge on the top to give it a better finish.
