How to Crochet the Superman Symbol

About: I'm a comic book nerd and grammar enthusiast who likes to make stuff and teach others. Check out my other videos at or see what I have for sale at!

After about a year of putting off trying to create a pattern for the Superman symbol, I finally sat down for a couple of days and figured it out.

The videos in this tutorial will show you exactly how you can crochet your very own Superman, Supergirl, or Superboy logo. The tutorial can also be used to create Bizarro's logo if you flip it around and (in some cases) use purple yarn instead of the red.

For this tutorial, you will need to know how to create a single crochet foundation chain with an adjustable slip knot, how to single crochet, and how to create a slip stitch. Aside from the crochet knowledge needed, you will also need some red yarn, yellow yarn, a 5mm crochet hook, and a pair of scissors. If you have a sewing needle, you can use that for the last part, but I just use my crochet hook. You will not need full skeins of yarn for this project.

It will likely take you about five hours to complete the entire symbol, which will measure around ten inches wide.

Step 1: Crocheting the Red Part

For this part of the tutorial, you will only need your red yarn and crochet hook. It will take roughly one hour to complete.

Step 2: Crocheting the Yellow Part

For this part, you will need your yellow yarn and crochet hook. It will take you roughly one hour to complete this part of the tutorial.

Step 3: Attaching the Red and Yellow Parts

This part of the tutorial will likely take you a few hours to complete. You will need your red yarn again for this part. If you would prefer to use a sewing needle for this part, go for it!

Bravo. Structure looks firm. Ideal, for the most rambunctious of kids. Nice for cosplay, and the like. Design and stitching. .. well done. Thank you for sharing it.
