Please define "previously published". My project was shared on my blog, though not in the detail that I would share in this contest. Am I screwed? Thanks.

I submitted a coffee table design to this contest, I got an email confirming that it was accepted, but it hasn't shown up yet among the entries... is this just an end-of-year-everybody's-on-vacation kind of thing or is it a more meaningful computer glitch?

"Canada (except the province of Quebec)"...
Why does Quebec is the only place in canada where I can't receive my prize?
I was thinking: Hooo, what a wonderful website I found! They have contest too! But not for me because I'm in a bilingual province... what the *?!

Instructables should take some action to allow Quebec residents to enter Instructable contests. If it is a question of translation, that could be easily done, and text could be reused for future contests. If it is a matter of taxes, your sponsors (Sears in this case) could take care of this. If it's a matter of filling a form, it can't be that hard. Obviously there are contests in Quebec, there are Sear stores in Quebec and there are Sears tools and appliances in my home which is in Quebec. If you need some local info let me know.

It actually isn't easily done. From Yahoo Answers: The burning issue of Quebec’s exclusion from North American contests. Void in Puerto Rico, Quebec and New York. This legal small print appears on all almost 90% of North American sweepstakes and contests. Big corporations like Pepsi, Best Buy or MGM are constantly using contests and sweepstakes as a marketing strategy to promote their products nationally in the US and Canada. However, the French province of Quebec with almost one third of the population of Canada is often not included in any contests. Indeed, it has to do with charity and contest laws in the province of Quebec. When planning national contests, companies are confronted with a unique set of rules and regulations in order to include Quebec. The Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec requires long preparation times and fees for approval. As a result a great number of national contests promoted by national brands exclude the province of Quebec. To shed some light on the issue, we have contacted the government agency responsible for slot machines, horse races, lotteries, sweepstakes and contests in Quebec. The following is a list of required steps in order to accomplish the impossible, get a sweepstakes approved in this unique Canadian province. The rules of a publicity contest must be accessible to the public and must include as a minimum: ·The conditions for entering the contest ·The places where the public must deposit or send the contest entry forms ·The deadline for entering the contest ·A description of the method of awarding the prizes ·The place, date and time the prizewinner will be named ·The media used to inform the winners of the prizes won ·The place, date and deadline for claiming prizes, or where applicable, whether the prizes will be delivered to the winner ·The information about how a jury will select the winners ·The nature of the skill-testing requirement that a winner has to satisfy in order to claim his prize ·A person for whom a publicity contest is carried on shall furnish security to the board where: 1)He has a head office or place of business in Quebec declared in accordance with the laws of Quebec 2)He has not been convicted of an offence against the Act or these Rules in that year precede the date of the launching of the publicity contest 3)That the value of a prize offered to Quebec residents is more than $ 100 It is recommended for companies wishing to offer contests and sweepstakes in Quebec to contact the Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec by visiting their website at Meanwhile, until Quebec loosens its rules and regulations, a good site to enter contests valid and legal in Quebec is Quebec Concours located at: There, you will find an extensive list of games, contests, sweepstakes, lotteries and surveys that pay participants. The site is a free resource for all Quebecois residents. Bernard Gagnon Canada Gaming Agency.

Ed, thanks very much for posting this text. I'm sure there's similar legal obfuscation behind the "exclusion" of our European, Asian, et al., colleagues. Seeing the "official" reasoning (including the silly disclaimer at the end) might possibly help folks understand that this isn't something "you" are doing.

Thanks for the details. This part really makes entering impossible; "1)He has a head office or place of business in Quebec declared in accordance with the laws of Quebec" I guess I have to take this up with the politicians.

Thx for the info. Now I think that I will fill a complain to the Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec ombudsman, and hope that will do something...

I've entered the contest just for the fun of it because I know I can't win any off the prices as I live in the Netherlands ( over in Europe ). I've seen some comments that I can enter but can't win a prize so I am just curious where I would end in the listing. Better to be disqualified in the end and knowing where you would have been and not win a prize then not knowing where you could have been at all. Maybe this could be something for the rules in a next sweepstake, you can enter and compete for the standings but you can't win any off the prices, this makes it nicer for the out off the USA and Canada people to compete.

This may just be worth to fly up to Canada, and get tips from a friend of mine...

well yeah, but skipping school and paying for a flight to canada all so you could enter, then fail at getting 20,000 dollars worth of stuff, then it would be fail...

does the prize gift card have to be used on craftsman products, or can it be anything at sears

Brand new, looks like a great site! Having trouble navigating, will start with a comment: Have photos to add, is it done right here? In particular, to enter the contests do you simply post photos here, under comments? Thanks
