How to Make LED Chaser Using 4017 IC and RGB LED

Hii friend,

Today I am going to make a circuit of LED Chaser using 4017 IC and RGB LED.

Step 1: Take All Components As Shown Below

Components required -

(1.) IC - 4017 x1

(2.) RGB LED - 3V x1 (Changing color RGB LED)

(3.) Red LED - 3V x5

(4.) Blue LED - 3V x5

(5.) Resistor - 470 ohm x1

(6.) Resistor - 1K x1

(7.) Battery - 9V

(8.) Battery clipper

(9.) Connecting wires

Step 4: Circuit Diagram

Connect all components according to this circuit diagram.

Step 5: Connect LEDs

Firstly we have to connect the -ve legs of all LEDs to circle of the copper wire as you can see in the picture.

Step 6: Connect +ve Legs of LEDs

Next we have to connect +ve legs of all LEDs to the pins of IC 4017 as solder in the picture.

Connect +ve of LED-1 to pin-3 of IC ,

+ve of LED-2 to pin-2,

+ve of LED-3 to pin-4,

+ve of LED-4 to pin-7,

+ve of LED-5 to pin-10,

+ve of LED-6 to pin-1,

+ve of LED-7 to pin-5,

+ve of LED-8 to pin-6,

+ve of LED-9 to pin-9 and

+ve of LED-10 to pin-11 of the IC.

Step 7: Short Pins of IC

Next connect pin-8, pin-13 and pin-15 of IC to each other as you can see in the picture.

Step 8: Connect 1K Resistor

Solder 1K resistor between -ve pin of all LEDs to pin-15 of the IC as given in the circuit diagram.

Step 9: Connect 470 Ohm Resistor

Next connect 470 ohm resistor between pin-14 and pin-15 of the IC.

Step 10: Connect RGB LED to the Circuit

Now we have to connect RGB LED at the centre of all LEDs.

~ Solder +ve leg of RGB LED to pin-16 of IC and

solder -ve leg of RGB LED to pin-14 of the IC as given in the circuit diagram.

Step 11: Connect Battery Clipper Wire

Solder +ve wire of battery clipper to pin-16 of the IC and

Solder -ve wire of battery clipper to pin-8/13/15 of the IC.

Step 13: How It Will Work

All LEDs will glow one by one as fast RGB LED Color will change.
