Introduction: How to Make Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies

This "Instructable" will teach you how to make Peanut Butter Blossom cookies!  It is an easy recipe with few steps to follow, and the cookies taste amazing at the end.  Enjoy!!

Step 1: Read the Recipe and Gather All of the Ingredients

When baking, it is essential to read the recipe before you start the project.  This will help you get a preview of the steps in case there is anything you need to be aware of.  It is also important because you need to see what ingredients the recipe calls for and how much of each.

Once you have read the recipe, you should gather all of your ingredients, measuring cups and spoons, and bowls.  It will be easier and quicker for you to have everything in one place before you get started with the baking process.

This is what you will need:

  • 48 Hershey Kisses

  • ½ cup shortening

  • ¾ cup Reese’s creamy peanut butter

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • Additional granulated sugar

  • SUPPLIES: large bowl

  • Beater

  • Spoons

  • Measuring cups

  • Cookie sheets

  • Wire cooling rack

  • Extra bowls and spoons

Step 2: Preheat the Oven

Next, you will need to preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  This should be done now while you are making the cookies so that the oven is hot enough when the cookies are ready to go in.  Here is a tip relating to the oven: Try not to open the oven door a lot while you are baking!!! It will mess up the heating patterns inside and may damage your food.

Step 3: Measure and Prepare the Ingredients

Now, it is time to measure and prepare all of the ingredients.  It is easier to do this all at once so that everything is ready when you are making the batter.  Make sure to double check the amount needed for each ingredient, as a batter with too much salt may taste bad. Don't forget to unwrap all of the Hershey Kisses, too.

Step 4: Beat Shortening and Peanut Butter

Next, you need to beat the shortening and peanut butter in a large bowl until it is well blended.  Make sure that when you are finished, the mixture looks equal and blended.

Step 5: Add 1/3 Cup Granulated Sugar and Brown Sugar

Next, you must add the 1/3 cup of granulated sugar and the brown sugar into the batter that you have now.  Make sure to add each ingredient slowly to ensure that it blends well and does not make a mess.  You should beat this completed mixture on low until it is fluffy.

Step 6: Add Egg, Milk, and Vanilla

Now, you need to add the egg, the milk, and the vanilla to the batter.  Once again, make sure to mix it to create a well blended batter.  Beat this well and on medium for a minute.

Step 7: Stir Together Flour, Baking Soda, and Salt

Next, you will need to stir the flour, baking soda, and salt all into one separate bowl.  Make sure you actually stir these ingredients and make a blend.  Then, you will need to add this mixture to the batter by gradually beating it into the peanut butter mix.

Step 8: Roll Into Balls

Now, you will take small sections from the batter and roll them into small balls in your hands. After that, you can also roll the balls into an extra bowl of sugar to add more flavor and sweetness to the final product.  When this is done, you will place the balls on a cookie sheet.

Step 9: Bake

Now, you will bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. You must make sure to set a timer and also to check on the cookies while they are in the oven to make sure they are not burning.

Step 10: Add Hershey Kisses

As soon as the cookies are done, you should remove them from the oven.  Immediately after removal, you need to lightly press one Hershey Kiss into each cookie.  Notice: the cookies will crack around the edges, so do not be alarmed; this is normal.

Step 11: Transfer

Next, you will transfer the cookies from the cookie sheet to the wire cooling rack.  This is an important step because if you forget to remove the cookies from the cookie sheet, they may become burnt. Also, the wire cooling rack will help cool the cookies faster and more regular.

Step 12: ENJOY!

Finally, it is time to enjoy your delicious creation of peanut butter blossom cookies!  These go great with milk or by themselves.  Either way, I hope this tutorial helped you and that you have created amazing cookies!
