Step 1: Scuff the Brass Tubes

With a piece of 120 sandpaper scuff the surface of the brass tubes to take off the oxidation and prep the tubes for gluing.

Step 2: Mark and Cut

Mark the blank to the length the brass tubes. Then cut the blank to that mark.

Step 3: Drill the Pen Blanks

Now you can drill a 10mm hole through the blank

Step 4: Glue in the Tubes

In the video I used wood glue. Since then I have learned to use CA glue (super glue). Smear it over the surface of the tubes. Then then insert them into the pen blank. Let them cure overnight.

Step 5: Squaring the Brass Tube With the Blank

It is important for the brass tube to be square with the brass tube. There are many ways to square the pen blank. If you have a disk sander, you can use that.

Step 6: Turning!! the Fun Part!!

Turn the shape of the wood down to the profile of the bushings. You will want to oversize the wood about a 16th of an inch larger than the bushings for sanding.

Step 7: Sanding!

Sanding is one of those steps you just can't skip. This may be one of the most important parts of making the pen. It is VERY important to get the very best finish you can get on the pen. This will affect the finish you put on the wood.

Step 8: Finish

There are a few options for pen finish. One of the best looking is a CA glue finish, but that is also one of the hardest finish you can put on the pen, especially on a black pen. I used a lacquer finish one this pen and it looks amazing.

Step 9: Assembly

Push all the parts together following the instructions that come with the pen.

Step 10: Done!!!

Now you can sit back, relax and admire you amazing creation! I really love making these pens. They make very nice gifts, I have given many away and I would encourage you to do so as well, it never gets old. I also sell pens like this one on Etsy.
