Step 1: Prepping the DIY Male POP Figure

Preparation begins with a DIY Male POP Figure I purchased from Funko. I removed the nose, and ears and then drew guidelines to help me through the modeling process.

Step 2: Modeling and Sanding

I decided to use Sculpey clay to add the details to the mask and outfit rather than paint it. This process is rinse and repeat since I add clay, model the clay, bake the figure, and then sand it smooth with various sandpapers. I use 400 grit and then finish with 1200 grit. You could do all the modeling at once and bake the figure once but I did not want to risk me bumping something that was finished while working another part of the figure.

Step 3: Painting

No I start the painting process, I use BASIC acrylics that can be purchased in any arts & craft store. You can use Heavy Body Acrylics but I like to apply the paint in layers and spray a clear coat between each layer to prevent damage to the paint. I started with White, then Red, and lastly Black since it would “hide the crimes”.

Step 4: Adding the Details

Spawn has spikes and chains that are attached to his suit, so the spikes are made from Sculpey, painted and then attached to the POP using CA Glue. And just like that a super awesome SPAWN POP!
