How to Make a DIY electric guitar invention for under $10 that can be connected to speakers. This amazing musical instrument idea can be used to rock out loud even if you don't play guitar like me. Don't wait, build your own guitar and rock out. The full video is available here :

Step 1: Getting an Amplifier

An electric guitar works by having a guitar and electronically amplifying the sound made by the strings. To make our own electric guitar we first need to start by taking apart a couple dollar store speakers to obtain their amplifier circuits .Breaking apart the speaker and snipping the wires we can obtain the amplifier circuit from each speaker.

Step 2: Connecting the Circuit.

For the electric guitar we are going to want alot of amplification . To accomplish this we will have one amplifier feed into another. To do this we start by snipping the charging/audio cable that comes with the speakers. The cable is composed of 2 smaller cables, one is for the power, the other is for audio signal. The cable for audio signal can easily be identified because it has 3 wires. Peeling the rubber back exposes the 3 wires, we will only be needing the red and the white one. For the first amplifier we will connect it's Cable to the microphone. The amplifier output (wires where the speaker was connected) should be connected to the input of the second amplifier. The output of the second amplifier can be connected to the large speaker .

Step 3: Connecting Power

Next we need to power the amplifiers. Each amplifier should have a white and red wire available, these are the negative and positive wires respectively. In the picture i connect the power wires to a port that i will plug a power source into. You can also instead attach the power wires to the positive and negative wires in a snipped usb cable so that it can be powered by plugging it into a usb port.

Currently the output of the amplifier can only feed into the speaker we have attached. To make it so that we can attach it to larger speakers we will need to attach the output of amplifier 2(where the speaker connects) to an auxiliary cable. To do this we just have to get the audio cable we snipped and cut the audio cable open to see the 3 wires. Attach the yellow and white wires to output of the amplifier

Step 4: Making the Guitar

To make the guitar i trace out the shape of the guitar onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out. TO stop the guitar from bending i also attach a lengthwise piece of cardboard to the back of guitar

Step 5: Attaching Strings

To attach the guitar strings i start by drilling 4 holes in the top of the guitar and gluing nuts to the other side.

Next i stick a bolt through the hole. On the bolt should be another nut and that nut will sandwich the elastic bad (string) into place. As the bolt is pushed through the cardboard it should thread into the nut on the other side of the cardboard. Turning the top of the screw will tune the guitar.

Step 6: Attaching the Elastics Part 2

To attach the bottom half of the elastics i drill 4 holes near the bottom of the guitar. on the other side of those holes should be a nut . Stretch the elastic band past the hole we drilled at the bottom end of guitar and stick a bolt through the hole to squeeze the elastic band into place

Step 7: Putting the 2 Parts Together

Now that the amplifier circuit and the guitar are complete we can attach the 2 together. The microphone should be positioned directly under the elastic bands. A hole can be cut into guitar and the speaker can be placed in the hole. The amplifier and the power port can be mounted to the back side of the guitar.
