Introduction: How to Make a Denim Blue Fish From Old Jeans

About: We LOVE TO SEW..., and we love to share too! See how easy it is with our instructables and videos. We also hope you'll visit our 1,000 page informational website to see all our sewing, quilting, knitting, and …

Recycle your old jeans into this two-tone denim blue fish.  It's real quick and easy to make, and it can be sewn by machine or by hand.   Denim scraps is all you need!

Step 1:

Use a wide area to make your fish body on your old jeans, like the bottom of the legs. Sketch a simple and easy fish body about 9" X 5" onto your denim. You are more than welcome to copy, paste, and use my silly little sketch, but I think you can probably do better than mine. LOL

Step 2:

Cut out two fish bodies, one for the front and one for the back.

Using dark denim and using a flat-felled seam area, cut small pieces to use for the fin and tail. Cut enough area so that you will NOT be sewing over the flat-felled seam.

Step 3:

Pin the fin and tail pretty side down and in the fish area as shown in the photo.  Stitch close to the edge in place.

Step 4:

Pin the fish front and backs together all around the fish, making sure the tail and fin are tucked in.  Leave a 4" opening at the bottom of the fish.  Stitch around the outer edge of the fish using the pressure foot as your guide. Don't forget to leave the opening.

Step 5:

Where the opening was, turn your fish pretty side out and stuff with a fiberfill of your choice.

Cut slits into the fin and tail. Do not cut past the flat-felled seam.

Step 6:

Hand stitch the opening closed. Sew a button for an eye on your fish.

There! You have just recycled and helped saved our planet, and made an awesome blue fish craft too...great job!

We'd love to see a photo of your recycled project!
