This Instructable will teach you how to make a little 8-page book out of ONE sheet of plain ol' 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

Supplies:

Step 1: Grab Your Materials

You will need:

1 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.
1 pair of scissors

Step 2: Folding...

Fold your paper in half three times, so that it is now in eighths.

Step 3: Cut...

Unfold all the way, and then fold in half once. Take your scissors and cut on the crease from the fold to the center.

Step 4: Fold in a Weird Way...

Unfold the paper and fold it again lengthwise, so that the cut you made is at the top. Push the ends together so that the cut forms a diamond. Keep pushing until it goes flat. Then crease all folds and admire your book.

I use these for many reasons, including writing down random stuff.

Seriously, I have at least fifty of these things lying around my house.

This is my first Instructable, so don't be harsh!

Step 5: Template

This template can be used if you wish to place text and pictures on the book before folding the book up. Please note that this is not exact for the lines and stuff, so don't save the image and erase the numbers and everything. Another note: pages 4 through 7 must be printed upside-down, otherwise the text and pictures will be upside-down after folding.

This was an excellent idea by bruno16029, and I decided to go through with it.

Im kinda derpy when it comes to following written instructions (written and picture instructions work better, or video so I can actually see it being done), but this actually makes sense to me :D. Well, until I get to the last step that is. The way Im doing it doesn't seem to fit the way you described it.

Though thats due my mind working weird, not the way you said how to. If I CAN get a bunch of these made up, Im going to write a bunch of 'happy feels' things in them (kinda like motivational posters, but in little book form) to give out at A-Kon in June :D

I <3 this book! I have made it many times and it is so nice to use! I like to make it into a recipe book when I bake goods for people! They just love it too! Thanks so much for showing me! : )

Or maybe it's not supposed to break down into more than the cover, 6 pages, and the back. Please confirm.

Step 4 seems incomplete. There must be more cutting after pushing the ends together or the pages aren't free of the folds. Please advise.

okay, now you take your paper and fold the long edge to the long edge. This puts the cut you just made into the middle of the crease on the edge on top. Then you push the two short edges (at the ends of the paper) together and the cut on the fold will separate and make the diamond shape he talks about above.

Oh yeah, and about the cutting. :P When you fold your paper in half taking the top edge to the bottom edge you are going to cut from the top edge (the folded edge) along the crease to the middle of the page.

okay, right now you do exatly the same fold you did in the first step, fold the top short edge to the bottom short edge.

Okay, to clarify, you take you sheet of paper and face it with one of the short edges on top. You fold the top edge to the bottom edge, Then you fold the far right edge to the far left edge. Then you fold the top (short) edge down to the bottom edge.

I'm going to completely redo this whole thing...it's a little messy and incomprehensible for some people.

If you can place pictures and text on this in the right places (template?), this makes a great gift tag or mini storybook.
