Introduction: How to Repair Broken Kickstand

I made this at Techshop Detroit

Materials:

1 Broken Kickstand

MIG welder

Sanblaster

Flat black powdercoat

Powder coat booth and oven

Safety glasses, welding gloves, welding helmet

Step 1: Broken Kickstand

Due to a previous owner my bike had a broken kickstand since I bought it. Thankfully, now I don't have to fight and embarrass myself every time I park.

Step 2: Sandblast

Get rid of the old paint and rust on both parts. This will help not only with the powder coat but also with getting a cleaner weld. After sand blasting I blew it with compressed air and wiped it off with acetone.

Step 3: Weld

For the MIG weld I used a wire speed of 176 and voltage at 16. I propped it up in place using magnets and clamps trying to get it lined up as best could. I welded the foot catch onto the stand. It was tacked first, then I went over and filled it in gave it a good weld all around.

Step 4: Powder Coat

After welding I powder coated the kickstand in flat black. Powder was purchased from Prismatic Powders. I baked it at 375 F for 12 minutes.

Step 5: Kickstand

I now have a working kickstand.
