hi. this is kid123. I have decided to make a series of intructables on how to draw basic cartoon characters. this is the beginning drawers! This technique will teach you how to draw almost any type of cartoon! This first step is how to draw a guy named "Keyhole ken". you will know him well soon...

draw a circle. If you are having trouble with this, refer to the diagram. XD

Step 2: The Body of Ken

Under the circle, draw a sort of triangly... thingy under his circle. Notice that this forms a type of keyhole shape! That is why he is named Keyhole ken! Freakin'. Amazing.

Step 3: Add the Nose. Make It Big!

His nose is a big thing. literally. But seriously, it tells which way he is facing. (left, right etc. you can make ken face that way by"pointing" his nose in that direction). It doesn't matter that the lines cross, so don't worry about it!

Step 4: Add They Eyes... Their There So He Can See!

just add the eyes by using two dots.

Step 5: Make an Ear

Just add a "c" shaped semicircle for the ear. Again , don't worry about crisscrossing lines.

Step 6: YAYYY! He Is Getting Hair!

add 3 lines by his ear, and make them stick out a little bit from his head.

Step 7: Add a Mouth. Smile!

have a line near the bottom-ish part of the circle. curve it slightly to make a mouth.

Step 8: Give Him an Arm

on Ken's lower portion of his keyhole, add a sort of backwards "L", and end it near the bottom of his body.

Step 9: Give Him Some Hands

add a couple of "U"s at the end of his arm to make some hands.

Step 10: And Now.... the Legs!

for his legs, add three lines after the keyhole. Two near the edge of the keyhole, and one in the middle.

Step 11: Finally, You Add Some Feet

add some pointy angles to make some feet on Ken. He is now done! You have made a Keyhole Ken!

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It is the best and I learned Ken and I even created my own cartoon style based on him. Now the only thing I need to do is find something to draw :(

It had Keyhole Ken... yes, I remember that little fella.... *slips out of trance* Oh, and did the book have doodles on a "desert island" theme in the back? I have that book somewhere in my cabinet. Seriously, I've been waiting for someone to post something like this. Good work!

Yeah. The cartoonist's workbook by robin Hall. For future reference, I use some of his methods. Great book, I highly recommend it if you like to draw cartoons or caricatures.

Very cool. This actually looks quite easy to do. I look forward to the rest of the series, I would like to learn how to draw more cartoon peoples.
