how does one create a first plate? Meaning without an existing plate to take off of initially? Is there any simple diy version involving bread yeast cultures growing in agar?

Hello amerzdahero. Thank you for your question. Most of the lab strains can be purchased from one of the big supply companies or obtained from any nearby labs who are working with yeasts. If you want to work with truly wild type strains, you could simply spot a liquid culture onto a clean agar plate to create your 'first' plate. Hope it helps!
