I am an A-Levels Student at Karachi Grammar School, Pakistan. My passion is physics and mechanics...

Here is a simple way of making a Bunsen Burner at home using household materials.

What you need:

1. Deodorant or Aerosol Spray
2. Aluminum Foil
3. An empty medicine bottle
4. Safety Matches
5. Fire Extinguisher (FOR SAFETY!)

Made By Manish Kumar

Step 1:

Step 1:

Take the Aluminum foil and fold it neatly into a large square or rectangle as shown. This piece of foil will act as a base for the medicine bottle.

Step 2:

Step 2:

Place the empty medicine bottle on the Aluminum foil.

Step 3:

Step 3:

Spray some deodorant inside the medicine bottle as shown.

Step 4:

Step 4:

After completing Step 3, immediately light a safety match and place it near the brim of the medicine bottle. The gas inside the bottle will act as natural gas and a luminous flame will be seen for approximately 20 seconds depending on the amount of gas inside and the speed at which this experiment is done. The faster, the better.

This is not a Bunsen burner. A Bunsen burner is a small lab burner that runs off a tank of compressed gas.

I'm sorry, I've never posted a "negative" comment before, but I do feel robbed of the 60 seconds it took for me to thoroughly read through this 'ible. I'm sure the author is quite young, and therefor can be forgiven for the pointlessness of the post, but it would be nice to have a caveat at the beginning explaining that this is written with only 6 or 7 years of life experience.
This isn't a creation, and not even an experiment, unless it was previously unknown that aerosol deo/hairspray was flammable, which is all that this demonstrates. Lighting the inside of a bottle on fire with no further purpose is not a useful instructible.
I just wanted to find a creative DIY alcohol lamp!
Again, sorry, I'm overly touchy tonight, no rudeness or offense intended. Just seems worth clarifying a standard of quality on this gem of a site.

I would add a face shield to your list of supplies, hot glass WILL shatter explosively. A better method is to find a small jar with a steel lid , drill or punch a small hold in the center of the lid (on your workbench ,not on the jar) then run a strip of 100% cotton thru the hole. You now have an alcohol lamp. Fill it woth Methyl alcohol or 99% isopropnol "rubbing" alcohol. This is what used to come in Chemistry sets in the '60s. MUCH SAFER !!!

Bunsen developed a specific type of burner to burn gas and air in a very hot flame - Your version does not do that.

The duration will be quite short as well.

Please anyone DON'T light the aerosol directly no matter how tempted you are.

Yes i agree, it will work for a very short period, but its made from common household materials. And in the case of the aerosol, i have mentioned the Fire Extinguisher as well.
