Step 1: Materials
Here is a list of materials you will need for this experiment;
- Black Light - First off make sure you have a real black light for this tutorial. The florescent lights work the best but the smaller incandescent bulbs will work as well.
- Highlighters - Purchase a variety of cheap highlighters in bright colors. Some colors don't work as well as others. The brightest colors are yellow, green, and pink.
- Jar/Bottle of Clear Water - Self explanatory, you can handle this.
- Razor Knifeor Scissors - Whichever tool you can operate without hurting yourself to cut open the felt strip from inside the highlighter is your best option.
Step 2: Break Open the Highlighter and Snag That Neon Felt Strip
Most people I've seen do this soak their felt strips in alcohol initially to avoid getting ink on their fingers, but I'm a free spirit and don't mind a little mess so I tear that strip up with a pair of scissors or a razor utility knife. Cause that's how I roll.
Step 3: Put the Felt Strip Into the Jar of Water
You really don't need much of the highlighter to do these. I use half a strip per jar so it's about $0.50 each. Not bad for the coolest night light ever!
Step 4: Turn on Your Blacklight and Light the Way
This is the best part, which I assume you've already done because let's face it....you're awesome.
