How to Play Older Video Games on Windows Vista. Simple.

Hello, If you are like me you LOVE older games. Star Wars Empire at War, Alien Vs. Predator, rollercoaster tycoon, etc. But sometimes older games are not completely compatible with newer systems like Windows Vista, or they dont work at all. This instructable is a SIMPLE way to get most of the older games to work on vista.

Step 1: Install the Game

If you cannot install the are out of luck. That is likely a problem with the CD not your computer, this instructables is for a game that can be installed, but not played (correctly).

Step 2: Properties Menu.

Right click the icon, hit properties. Click the tab "compatability" and check the box "run in compatability for..." and choose the OS made closest to when the game was released. e.g. AVP2 was released in 2001 so I would select windows 2000.

Step 3: All Done!

See? wasn't that easy? AVP2 had the WIERDEST glitches before I found this out! Let me know if it doesn't work.

Unfortunately I do not think this worked with mechwarrior 4. I have vista 64 bit and first I tried comparability mode for so and it did not work. Next I tried it on 98 but it said the directx is wrong. The problem is the game starts up and you hear the sound for the intro but no video and the cursor is frozen. You need to force quit it. I ended up installing it on an xp laptop that I will soon seal up inside of an arcade machine. I guess now it will have arcade games, n64 games, and mechwarrior 4 lol

That might be an easy fix, in installation if it asks to install/update directx, don't do it! It will definitely work if that is an option.
