Step 1: Pickling
Depending on the condition of the furniture, pickling should be the first step in any restoration work, and that will remove the former remains of paints, varnishes or lacquers, so you can work more easily on the surface. This process can be made directly with the sandpaper, thin films with a chemical stripper or a hot air tool.
Step 2: Sanding
Sanding is a key, because from this process depends that afterwards, the paint will adhere properly, obtaining an optimal and lasting result. So, DIY lovers often have an electric sander, but can also use sandpaper helped with wooden blocks. The paper thickness varies depending on the material to be abraded, for example, should be between 30 and 80 to remove the paint from a solid wood, of between 100 and 180 to thin or remove polished lacquered, and between 220 and 400 for polished intermediate or varnished surfaces. Furthermore, we can also use steel wool, rasps or other types of tools.
Step 3: Paint of Laquer
One of the final steps and in which we bring our personal touch, depending on the style you seek. In this section, one of the things that we value is the type of paint you should use depending on the destination surface and furniture. So we have plastic paints, acrylic, synthetic .. We must also take into account the ecological paints, which do not use solvents or other toxic products.
Step 4: Varnish
It is the final touch on wood surfaces. Several types of varnish (colorless dye ..) that allow us to obtain different finishes and increased protection on the wood. Thus varnish application will vary depending on the type and condition of the surface we are dealing with. In this report the steps to take for each situation (new surfaces, shabby ..) are explained.
The varnish is a completion or finishing of wood that allows us to obtain interesting results in any carpentry work. It is very important to choose the type of varnish you want to use and , of course , know the type of surface on which to apply and the state of it. Depending on these factors , we must follow a few steps or other .

1. The first is to mix and smooth the surface with sandpaper number 00 or 000 . Always have to sand following the grain of the wood.

Step 5: Shabby Surface
If the area on which we are to varnish has deteriorated and has already applied other varnishes, we should sand do the following:1. Remove traces of varnish. Use sandpaper the surface or use paint remover liquid.2. Then clean well the surface of any dust.3. Then proceed to paint normally.
Step 6: Surface in Good Condition
This is the way that almost certainly will get the best result.To do so, we must :1. Wash the wood with detergent and water. Dry completely .2. Work it gently with sandpaper and remove any dust .3. Apply one or two coats of varnish, but be sure, always leaving enough time to dry the first hand.
