It is one-hour project, a house for two domesticated rabbits, each in a separate room/floor (still not sure about their gender so not letting them together by their own).
As I´ve studied, they can manage well in a low temperature as long kept away from direct wind. I managed to build two of them with materials laying around and Im sure theres a tons of ways to do it but the general principle of using IBC container was a good find for me.
These fellows came from a small island and were kept free as there were no larger animals to harm them. They populated to an extent where some of them had to find a new home. Both black and brown one are very human-friendly and seem to enjoy themselves this last week they have been inhabiting their pixel-house.
Being a two floored house I made the lower apartement a bit higher to compensate luxurious lit roof the upper one is having. Also, as they are lair-animals and like dim environment I put the houses under a large tree.
Step 1: Materials and Tools
Materials needed for this version:
- IBC container
- about 5 m of 100x20 wood
- 0,5m wire for the lock
- 20 mm screws
- 50 mm screws
For the dividing floor:
- 1m2 of armature net
- 1m2 of plywood
- tape measure
- electric screwdriver
- angle grinder
Step 2: Dividing the Cube
This step is only necessary when accommodating two rabbits.
The floor separating two rooms is made of an armature net resting on sidebars. Sidebars can be easily screwed onto sides of the container using some washers. On top of the net I used 4 plywood pieces I had in hand, one large piece would not fit in with this doorshape.
Step 3: Fixing the Shape of the Door
IBC container only holds its form in a cube shape. A doorpiece I cut needed some structure to be solid. Solution I came up with looks like this.
Step 4: Hinges
Other side of the door hinges needed to be strenghten as well. I used a wooden piece the same way as in the sidebars. Hinges are put between the wood and plastic to get the right bending of the door.
Step 5: The Order of Installing the Door
I found it to have the best fit of the door, when attaching the doorframe first and then aligning plastic covering and fixing it with screws.
Step 6: So the Door Could Be Closed..
The doorframe also needed an incut to be able to be closed.
Step 7: ..and Locked
Simplest way for locking the door was using a piece of wire locking behind a screw. Putting in through a hole in a container makes it quite effective actually.
Step 8: What Is Missing
In a general lack of time I started building before going through several plans. The thing I forgot and need to add while next cage-cleanup is a window so they can be updated what´s up in a yard.It would be a thin cutout with sidebars on the edges where some solid wire-mesh could be attached.
