IOT123 - I2C BRICK PROTOTYPING SLAVE

Introduction: IOT123 - I2C BRICK PROTOTYPING SLAVE

About: The tension between novelty and familiarity...

While developing the latest ASSIMILATE ACTOR (KY-019 RELAY), a generic dev board was thrown together to save me some extra work at my desk.

It has the standard pinouts of the I2C IOT123 BRICK, but allows custom connections to the sensor from the ATTINY85.

The ATTINY85 is removable via the DIL Socket. The I2C lines are hardwired. Everything else is breakout connectable. It works very well with the I2C BRICK MASTER JIG.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

  1. 1" Double sided protoboard (1)
  2. ATTINY85-20PU (1)
  3. 8 Pin DIL IC Socket (1)
  4. Male Header 90º (3P, 3P)
  5. Female Headers (4P, x 9 units)
  6. 0.5mm Tinned Wire (6)
  7. Solder and Iron (1)
  8. Strong Cyanoachrylate Adhesive (1)

Step 2: Assembly

Gluing the units to the board may be an option, with the correct ventilation and care not gluing pads/pins. Gluing the components to one another can provide a sturdier unit.

  1. On the front of the PCB, insert the DIL Socket (1), Male Header 90º (2)(3) and solder off on rear.
  2. On the front of the PCB, insert the Male Headers 4P (4)(5)(6) and solder off on rear.
  3. On the rear of the PCB, insert the Male Headers 4P (7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12) and solder off on front.
  4. On the front, trace a bare wire from BLACK1 to BLACK2, and solder off on rear.
  5. On the front, trace a bare wire from YELLOW1 to YELLOW2, and solder off on rear.
  6. On the front, trace a bare wire from ORANGE1 to ORANGE2, and solder off on rear.
  7. On the front, trace a bare wire from RED1 to RED2, and solder off on rear.
  8. On the rear, trace a bare wire from GREEN1 to GREEN2, and solder off.
  9. On the rear, trace a bare wire from BLUE1 to BLUE2, and solder off.

Step 3: Next Steps

The I2C interface can be tested/developed in unison with the I2C BRICK MASTER JIG.

The prototypes can be integration tested on an ASSIMILATE SENSOR/ACTOR HUB prior to committing it to a release PCB.
