A Jacobs ladder powered by my ZVS flyback driver.

Using two bare conductors parallel from each-other with a small gap at the bottom and getting wider, as the ionised air heats up the arc will rise as the ionised air does until the gap gets too wide to support the arc when it will break.

The process will then begin again.

    If you bring the top of the conductors closer together, will the sparks climb higher?

    I tried putting them in a number of different positions and remember the arc getting stuck if the conductors were not in the "correct" position, but yes if I had the tops closer they might have risen higher.
