Keychain Carabiner: From Solidgate to Wiregate Conversion (De Mosqueton Cierre Solido a Alambre)

¿Para que sirve esta conversion?- Bueno, para nada en particular, solo que no existen mosquetones para llaveros en el mercado que tengan cierre de alambre. Este instructable mostraba como convertir un mosqueton comun en uno "wiregate", como se construyen los cierres y como adaptarlos al mosqueton. Esto puede ser util si tenemos uno de estos llavero y se rompe el resorte del cierre.
Los mosquetones con cierre de alambre en escalada son mas livianos que los de cierre solido y ademas tienen un funcionamiento mas suave.

why a wiregate conversion? - well, for nothing in particular, it's just that there isn't any "wiregate" carabiner for keychain in the market. This instructable will show how make a "wiregate" and how adapt the carabiner. This can be usefull if the spring in the carabienr breaks and you want to replace it with a wiregate.
The wiregate in rockclimbing are lighter and have a smoother open/close than the soligate ones-

Step 1: Spare Apart the Carabiner / Desarmando El Mosqueton

El primer paso es limar el remache que funciona como pivote del cierre del mosqueton. Una vez removida, utilizar un gramil o clavo y un martillo para empujar el remache fuera del cierre.

The first step is remove the rivet head with a file. Once done, push the rivet with a nail and a hammer.

Step 2: Drilling / Agujereado

Ahora hay que hacer un segundo agujero para el wiregate, de 2mm de diametro y hubicado por debajo del aguejro ya existente en el cuerpo dle mosqueton.

Now, you have to make a second hole for the wiregate, under the already existent hole, about 2mm diameter ( about 14G or 5/64")

Step 3: Reform / Reformando

Para darle un aspecto mas parecido al de un "wiregate" se limo la nariz del mosqueton para darle forma de gancho.

For a more realistic look, the nose was filed to form a "nose hook".

Step 4: The Hardest Part / La Parte Mas Dificil

Hora de hacer el cierre de alambre, es simple de hacer y complicado de explicar. Espero que siguiendo las fotos adjuntas sea mas intuitivo.

Time to make the wiregate, it's simple to make, but hard to explain. Hope the pictures explained better.

Step 5: Assembling / Armado

Usando una pinza, colocar el extremo faltante en el segundo agujero y probar la tension de apertura. Si la tension e smuy baja o no cierra correctamente, doblar un poco mas el alambre que corresponde al agujero superior.

Using a plier, put the other end of the wire in the lower hole and test the opening tension. If the tension is too low or it doens't close correctly, bend the wire that goes into the upper hole.
