Introduction: LAPTOP COOLING SYSTEM...EASIEST

About: Diyer with a knack for making things

The main reasons due to which a laptop heats up are
1. Improper Ventilation
2.Dust Clogging
3.Crammed up space around laptop
4, Overworking i.e, overplaying hd games for too long if your pc lacks a graphic card.
5.Cooling system failure

I personally faced the first four lacunae

My instructable shows you the easy way out of all this with three simple things:-

a. A Paintbrush for half a dollar in INDIA

b. Spectacle lens cleaning cloth (the velvetty  ones)

c. My own pc cooling fan powered from an external source....it saves battery from being drained unnecessarily..

HOW TO USE????

A.     The paintbrush will be used to wipe of any dust on the keyboard very frequently...slow strokes with care leave the lcd screen undamaged when cleaning too near the lcd or the lcd itself...the best way to get rid of any dust if your laptop is new...and dust has not yet stuck to it..

However if dust has already stuck to it due to oil or grease DO THIS

Take some surgical spirit available for mere 15 rupees here in india.....a cotton dipped in it ,,,,round the cotton into a ball and wipe the dusty parts...the dust must stick to the cotton,,,do it very carefully...though cotton will stick to some corners,,,but that can easily be taken off,,,never use perfumes or deodorants with oils...they will stick to the surface making it look yet more ugly.

repeat the process as necessary...i do it every two weeks...my keyboard is new as it was when it had been purchased..

B.      COMING TO THE LENS CLEANING CLOTH

Many wont agree but I have had no problem with this...water on your lappy!!!!

YES, the best coolant is obviously water....your laptop's cooling system even has water in an airtight copper tube..

SO THIS IS WHAT WE GONNA DO..

Dip the clean cloth in water and squeeze it TILL water stops dripping from it....search for the section near the mouse touch pad where the hard drive has been screwed...do not open the laptop..just put the cloth on the outer case of laptop having hard disk at its exact bottom...this should be done with caution and take care not to over soak the cloth...

OTHERWISE DIP THE CLOTH IN WATER AND SQUEEZE TIGHTLY TILL YOU DRAIN ALMOST ALL THE WATER....SPREAD IT AS MENTIONED ON THE TOP CASE,,,AND WATER IT SLOWLY WITH A DROPPER...KEEP THE CLOTH AWAY FROM JOINTS EDGES AND VENTS...IT SHOULD NOT FALL OVER SO AS TO BLOCK ANY AIR OUTLET

THE THIRD PART IS THE EXTERNAL FAN ..

There is an attached video file (http://youtu.be/lCHZiPQqSBI) showing the fan working with a 5volts 500mA mobile battery charger...

make sure the voltage rating of mobile charger is equal to or below the specified voltage rating of the fan,,,while the current rating should be at least double of what is specified on the fan,,,otherwise the charger will be damaged...divide the power rating by the voltage rating to get the max value of current through the fan ...

about that stand from screws and bolts,,,it was an idea that struck my mind when i was devising an adjustable stand idea,,,

WHERE TO PLACE THE FAN???

Of course underneath the laptop...no need to drill a big hole in your table...raise your laptop a few inches by books or bushings of rubber available in the market,,,place the fan under a vent that supplies air to the RAM or any other vent you think gets too hot....not too close ...the air flow is awkward....keep 1 centimeter away from base of laptop

never ever try to provide moisture to internal components through vents...you will end up damaging internal circuitry
...LET ONLY AIR FLOW AND COOL THE SYSTEM...NO MOISTURE,,, NO WATER SPRAYS INTO THE SYSTEM HOWEVER LITTLE IT MAY BE,,

PULL OUT ANY UNUSED USB DEVICES, MICROPHONES, SPEAKERS, EARPHONES,,THEY CONSUME POWER EVEN WHEN NOT IN USE,,,PUT THE COMPUTER IN MUTE MODE IF YOU ARE NOT USING SOUND,,,DECREASE BRIGHTNESS TO THE LOWEST AND GRADUALLY ADAPT TO IT........IT INCREASES BATTERY LIFE AND EFFICIENCY..CLEAN INTERNALLY ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DISMANTLE YOUR LAPTOP AND HANDLE "ESD"....

An extra piece of advice...shut down laptop,,,search for the vent from which the cooling system of laptop pushes out air...blow large amount of air into it from your mouth in short quick bursts or use an pressurized air can....both work for me
This keeps the cooling fan dust free and makes it work efficiently ....

Do not shut down the laptop very often..if you need to use it after an hour ,,,let it sleep...sleep mode consumes no power...and puts the ram into a cache mode...where it stores the previous session...hard drive stops...but computer is drowsy

CLEAN THE BATTERY TERMINALS CAREFULLY EVERY 1 OR 2 YEARS WITH PURE SPIRIT OR ALCOHOL AND COMBED COTTON SOFTLY TO PREVENT TERMINALS FROM GETTING JAMMED
