Introduction: LIZ’S DELICIOUS PRALINE MAPLE BACON

About: I love to travel and had the opportunity to visit other countries and experience different cultures and their foods. My husband and I lived in Thailand for a year and one half and what I miss most of all is t…

My husband and I experienced a beautiful guest house in
South Dakota two years ago and in the morning one of their breakfast items was the most delicious tasting bacon we have ever eaten. I asked the owner what she called it and she told me “Praline Bacon”. I asked her what was in it, etc. Since that time I had made it at least eight times, modifying it, tweaked it each time until I think I got it just right.

Since we lived in Northern Wisconsin and I always canned our food but also tapped our own trees for Maple syrup and canned the syrup and now we live in ND thought I would modify this recipe and use the thick bacon but also maple syrup, thick maple bacon and WOW! What a treat.

Yes, this recipe is time consuming but for the holidays with family or any other special time this is worth it. After chopping up the pecans and mixing up with the brown sugar, and the other ingredients (I triple the recipe) and I keep that aside for next few times (even if is for months later) It is worth it. What a treat and nothing so special having it for that special breakfast or brunch.

Step 1: INGREDIENTS

Chop up 1/2 cup pecans and cut again until into very thin bits.

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup chopped pecans

3 Teaspoons chili powder

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1 Teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional)

Step 2: Then Mix Together:

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup chopped pecans

3 Teaspoons chili powder

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1 Teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional)

Take Bacon and Maple syrup out of the refrigerator and bring to room temperature.

Step 3: Bake in 350 Oven

DIRECTIONS: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bring out a cookie sheet and a cookie cooling grate to put over it and spray it with Pam or a non grease spray. Put the bacon over the grate. Spread the maple syrup over the room temperature thick maple flavored bacon with a brush. Sprinkle the brown sugar, pecan, and chili powder mixture over the bacon and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Turn with a fork and brush more maple syrup and sprinkle, brown sugar and pecan mixture and put back in the oven for another 12 to 15 minutes but watch it so not to over bake it. It should be crispy and brown. Enjoy! Excellent!
