This project was not an intricate planned out project, I simply looked at my shop wall and saw the simple hooks and decided to make something better. I am a fan of lots of different anime shows. One of my favorite shows is Naruto. I love all of the different knives and swords that are in the show. I decided to see if I could make a Lasered Coathanger that looked like a kunai knife stuck in the wall. Here is how I made them.

Step 1: Materials Used

Step 2: Cut on the Laser

1/8in plywood cuts like butter on my laser, it is really nice to work with. It does not leave a charred edge. I designed this coat hanger in CorelDraw X7 and exported it as a DXF file so that it could be cut on the laser.

I have included the original CorelDraw file as well as the DXF file that is laser-ready.

Step 3: Assemble

Once all of the pieces were cut the individual knives needed to be assembled. Each Knife consists of two of the pieces with the tang, two of the blade pieces, two small rectangles to keep everything aligned, and the two mounting pieces for locking it to the wall. I used wood glue to glue together all of the knife pieces except for one of the smaller blade pieces. The smaller blade piece will not be glued until it is ready to attach to the wall.

Step 4: Sanding the "Blade"

Well, I do not have a bench sander, so an upside down belt sander will have to suffice. I rounded the edges on the circle part, and put edges into the "blade" of the knifes.

Step 5: Paint

I pushed the unglued part of the blade into place and painted all of the knifes with glossy black spray paint. I also painted the pieces that mount to the wall.

Step 6: Wrap the Handles

I wanted to have a little bit of red fabric to wrap around the handles. I just so happen to have some shop rags that are the right color. I cut the rag into strips and put a dab of hot glue on the handle and wrapped it up. Once it was wrapped up I cut the extra and put another dab of hot glue to secure the wrap.

Step 7: Mount on the Wall

Now the knives are ready to hang on the wall. The mounting points get screwed to the wall first. I used the screws with the smallest heads I could find that would still hold weight. Once the mounting points are screed into the wall the knives can be mounted. First the big half of the knife is locked into place, then then I applied some hot glue and then put the other half of the blade into place. I used a few small clamps to hold everything tight while the hot glue solidified.

Step 8: Finishing Touches

I wanted to add a little more flair around the hangers. I always wanted to put some paper bombs on the wall, so I thought this would be as good a place as any to put a couple paper bombs around. I also wanted to make sure that if anyone tries to steal my lab coat, they can expect them to explode in their face, lol. I found an image of the paper bombs on the internet, and printed them off on a color printer. I used a foam brush and applied a layer of matte Mod Podge to the back of the image, then stuck it to the wall.
